摘要： A magnetic recording medium is disclosed which comprises a non-magnetic support and a magnetic layer comprising a ferromagnetic powder having a specific surface area of not less than 55 m.sup.2 /g and at least two kinds of resins each containing repetitive units having a polar group selected from the group consisting of a --SO.sub.3 M group, a --OSO.sub.3 M group, a --COOM group and a --PO(OM').sub.2 group, wherein M is a hydrogen atom or an alkali metal atom, and M' is a hydrogen atom, an alkali metal atom or an alkyl group, and the glass transition points of said two resins are different not less than 60.degree. C. from each other. The recording medium is improved in the dispersibility of the ferromagnetic powder in the magnetic layer and has a satisfactory surface smoothness, high electromagnetic conversion characteristics and a satisfactory running durability.

The binder composition of the present invention comprises a block copolymer, having a hard segment, with a glass transition temperature (T.sub.g) of greater than about 70.degree. C., and a soft segment, having a T.sub.g of less than about -30.degree. C. The binder composition of the present invention has relatively stable physical properties over a range of temperatures, preferably at least 50.degree. C. at more preferably at least 100.degree. C.

摘要： A magnetic recording medium improved in the magnetic recording characteristics, running properties and durability is disclosed. The magnetic recording medium comprises a non-magnetic support having on a side of the support an upper magnetic layer positioned farther from the support and a lower magnetic layer positioned closer to the support. The upper magnetic layer comprises a binder, a magnetic powder having an original BET specific surface area of not less than than 30 m.sup.2 /g and at least one abrasive selected from alumina, silicon carbide, Cr.sub.2 O.sub.3, silica, .alpha.-Fe.sub.2 O.sub.3, TiO.sub.2 and zilconia in a portion of 3 to 20 parts per 100 parts by weight of the magnetic powder, and the lower magnetic layer comprises a binder and a magnetic powder having an original BET specific surface area of less than 30 m.sup.2 /g, and kinds of the binders each contained in the upper magnetic layer and the lower magnetic layer are the same.

The binder contains a polymer having at least one kind of an acidic polar group selected from the group consisting of a phosphate group, a phosphoric acid group, a sulfonic acid group, a carboxylic acid group, a metal salt of phosphoric acid group, a metal salt of sulfonic acid group, and a metal salt of carboxylic acid group.

摘要： A magnetic recording medium is disclosed comprising a substrate coated with a mixture which consists essentially of (1) hexagonal plate-like shaped, ferrite magnetic powder particles having an average particle diameter of 0.2 .mu.m or less and (2) a binder resin having an active hydrogen equivalent of 2000 or more. This magnetic recording medium displays no flocculation of the hexagonal system ferrite magnetic powder, and has excellent dispersion properties and perpendicular orientation ability. Further, smoothness on the coating film is good, and S/N properties are noticeably improved.
