    • To provide a plurality of magazines very closely by saving the space for forming the moving path that is required for allowing a cartridge transporting device to move. A movable magazine that is capable of moving in the lateral direction individually is provided between a first fixed magazine and a second fixed magazine located on both sides. The movable magazine is moved from the position of a cartridge loading/unloading face that corresponds to a cell to which a cartridge as a mount target for a magnetic tape drive is being housed or a cell to which a cartridge that is unmounted from the magnetic tape drive is to be housed so as to form a longitudinal moving path for allowing the cartridge transporting device to move between the magazines neighboring to each other.

    • An optical disk device has superior vibration characteristics by preventing vibration of a rotating arm. A desired optical disk is selected from the plurality of optical disks which are stacked and accommodated. The rotating arm is rotated to a working space provided for the desired optical disk. A turntable is positioned, and an optical head is moved to perform the recording/reproduction. Because the tip part of the rotating arm of a cantilever structure is supported by a support member extending along the axial line CL of the optical disk, it has a structure supported by both ends. Thus, the vibration of the rotating arm can be prevented. Because the support member extends along the axial line CL of the optical disk, it passes through a holding hole at the center of the optical disk and a notch provided at the center of a tray, without interference on its way, thereby supporting the rotating arm.

    • A disc discriminating device disposed in a disc changer is provided. The disc changer includes at least a tray having a recess. The disc discriminating device includes a sensing circuit and a conductor. The sensing circuit has a first contact and a second contact. The sensing circuit accordingly outputs a signal when the first and second contacts are electrically connected. The conductor has a first end electrically connected to the first contact, a protrusion penetrating an aperture disposed on a sidewall of the recess and protruding to the recess, and a second end interspaced by an interval with the second contact. The protrusion outside the recess is squeezed by a disc when loading into the recess, so that the second end of the conductor is electrically connected to the second contact. The sensing circuit outputs a signal according to the above conduction.

    • Disclosed is an automated disk-ejection apparatus for use in a disk system. The disk system includes a disk box for housing a disk drive, and the auto-ejection apparatus comprises: a handle for pulling out or pushing back the disk box; a pushing mechanism for pushing the handle; and a control circuit for controlling the pushing mechanism. The featured disk apparatus is designed such that while the disk box needs to be pulled out in order for loading or replacing the disk drive, the pushing mechanism is activated to push the handle. The handle can thus be rotated along the pivot into an inoperative state, for subsequently to be pulled for withdrawing the disk box. Moreover, another embodiment of the present invention relates to using a pushing mechanism to push a rotatable panel of a disk box.

    • A magazine assembly containing numerous media units is disposed adjacent to a picker assembly. One of the two assemblies is normally stationary, while the other assembly is a traveling assembly. In either case, the two assemblies cooperate with one another to selectively provide the picker assembly with access to the media units that are stored in the magazine assembly. A motion reversal assembly is coupled to the normally stationary assembly and is engageable by the traveling assembly when it enters an end portion of its excursion path. When the motion reversal assembly is so engaged, it moves the normally stationary assembly in the direction opposite to that of the traveling assembly's movement. The effect is an apparent increase in the traveling assembly's available excursion length, which makes it possible for the picker assembly to access media slots that would otherwise be disposed in the dead spaces located on either end of the traveling assembly's excursion path.

    • A disc device of the present invention comprises a disc accommodating unit (I) for accommodating a plurality of discs (D), a transfer mechanism (III) for removing a disc (D) from the disc accommodating unit (I), and a disc driving unit (II) capable of moving between a standby position P1 where it is not overlapped with the discs (D) accommodated in the disc accommodating unit (I) and a driving position P2 where it is overlapped with the discs (D) accommodated in the disc accommodating unit (I), and driving any one of the discs (D) accommodated therein. When the disc driving unit (II) is located at the standby position P1, the transfer mechanism (III) stands by at a position where it is overlapped with the disc driving unit (II), and when the disc driving unit (II) is located at the driving position P2, the transfer mechanism (III) moves to a position where it is not overlapped with the disc driving unit (II) and can transfer any one of the discs (D) accommodated in the disc accommodating unit (I). When a disc (D) is not being transferred from the disc accommodating unit (I), the transfer mechanism (III) stands by at the position where it is overlapped with the disc driving unit (II). In addition, the disc driving unit (II) is disposed so that it can move to the driving position P2 where it is overlapped with the discs (D) accommodated in the disc accommodating unit (I). Accordingly, the space efficiency of the device in a plan direction can be improved, and the size of the device can be reduced as a whole.

    • A disc player moves a selected disc between a playback position and a stocker. Carriages, for holding discs, are stacked concentrically and pivotally supported tightly together within the stocker. The carriages are extracted from the stocker by lifting a front end of an adjacent carriage above the selected carriage. A shuttle then moves the selected carriage from the stocker to the playback position. When the disc player is turned on, the device goes through an initialization sequence to determine whether the carriage, aligned with the playback position, is in the store position within the stocker. If not, the shuttle moves the carriage to the store position. If the carriage and shuttle do not return to the store position within a predetermined period of time, then the disc player attempts to re-engage the shuttle with the carriage by shifting the stocker slightly to clear the shuttle path, while attempting to drive the shuttle to its home position.
