    • An electrophotographic printer is configured to print a three-dimensional texture on a substrate by applying clear toner in locations corresponding to where texture is desired. The clear toner for texture may be applied either after, or before, other colors (e.g., CMYK) are applied to the substrate. The clear toner may be applied during the same pass as the other colors in an electrophotographic printer (10) having five imaging units (20C, 20M, 20Y, 20K, and 20X). Alternatively, the clear toner may be applied during a second pass of the substrate through the electrophotographic printer (10) if, on the first pass, all five imaging units are occupied with different colored toners. An electrophotographic printing system that includes a front-end station for scanning a document coupled to an electrophotographic printer (10) allows an operator to add texture to a scanned document.

    • A system and method for printing a document having one or more document finishes. The method comprises determining an electrostatic image to be applied to a sheet of paper that corresponds to a document finish, applying a finish toner to the sheet of paper corresponding to the electrostatic image, the finish toner operable to yield a document finish when fused to the sheet of paper, and fusing the finish toner to the sheet of paper. Typically, the finish toner is applied after a non-finish toner and/or a non-finish ink have been applied to the sheet of paper. Thus, the non-finish toner/ink provides the content of the sheet of paper while the finish toner provides a finish, such as a glossy, matte, or satin finish, etc. Such a system is well suited for creating and reproducing documents with finishes because large industrial printers are not required to produce the document finish.

    • In an image forming apparatus, an image forming condition is changed depending on whether or not a recording material on which a toner image is formed is ordinary high gloss paper or thermoplastic resin coated paper. More specifically, in the case where a high gloss mode is selected during image formation, judgement whether or not the high gloss paper is the ordinary high gloss paper or the thermoplastic resin coated paper is made. In the former case, a screen line number is set to 150 lpi, and in the latter case, the screen line number is set to 200 lpi. As a result, image failure due to collapse of a toner layer (during fixation) on the ordinary high gloss paper is prevented and high-quality toner image is formed on the thermoplastic resin coated paper.
