    • A branch point diagram system includes a terminal disposed on a movable body for displaying a branch point diagram of a branch point and a delivery server for delivering branch road part to the terminal according to a delivery schedule when the terminal approaches a branch point. The delivery server calculates the delivery load of delivering the branch road part according to the schedule. In view of the calculation results of the delivery load, the delivery schedule is revised, and the branch road part is delivered to the terminal according to the revised schedule. The terminal then displays the branch point diagram for the branch point after generating the branch point diagram based on the branch road parts and positional data received from the delivery.

    • Architecture that computes cross-streets of a geographic location using a dynamic routing service. This also means execution can be local on a mobile device without the need to build an additional index of locations and associated cross-streets. Accordingly, the user can now find the cross-streets of a particular location rather than simply the street address. Upon receiving geolocation data for the geographic location, for which the nearest cross-streets are being determined, routing points from which routes are generated to the main point of interest are selected to be sufficiently distant from the main point of interest, since if the routing points are too close, the route may not yield a route sufficiently detailed from which the cross-streets can be inferred. The output is then cross-streets on either side of the geographic location as a means for providing a quick reference to a user seeking the location.

    • A navigation device is provided that presents a travel direction of a vehicle at a guide point along with a map around the vehicle, without significantly reducing a display area of the map around the vehicle. The navigation device of the present invention includes current position locating means 9 for locating the current position of a vehicle, storage means 25 for storing map data, display means 19 for displaying a guidance screen that includes a map 41 around the current vehicle position with use of the map data, and operation means formed by a plurality of keys 45, 49, 65, 67 and 69 displayed on the display means 19 and a touch panel 31. The guidance screen includes a guide point display key 49, the guide point display key 49 causing a map 41 around a guide point that the vehicle is to pass through next, out of guide points that are present on the guidance route and where a travel direction of the vehicle is guided, to be displayed on the display means 19 instead of the guidance screen, and an arrow 51 is added to the guide point display key 49, the arrow 51 indicating the travel direction of the vehicle at the guide point that the vehicle is to pass through next.

    • Techniques are provided for displaying a route symbol with narrative driving directions. A route symbol for a particular maneuver may be used to represent the road to which the maneuver relates. For example, one type of a route symbol that may be used to represent a road may be an interstate route symbol that has substantially the same appearance (e.g., substantially the same or similar shape, and/or substantially the same coloration) as an interstate route sign used to mark the interstate itself. Another example of a type of a route symbol that represents a road is an highway route symbol that looks substantially the same as a highway route sign used to mark a state highway. A route symbol used for the display of a maneuver also may include route symbols that are related to the type of maneuver, such as the type of a turn, described by the maneuver.

In the distribution server, a branch road data extraction section extracts data on branch road shape graphic patterns necessary for preparing a direction guide map from a branch road data storage device; an arrangement designation data preparation section prepares an arrangement designation data which designates an arrangement mode of the extracted data on branch road shape graphic patterns; and a distribution section distributes the extracted data on branch road shape graphic patterns and the prepared arrangement designation data to the navigation apparatus. In the navigation apparatus, a direction guide map preparation section prepares a direction guide map based on the received data on branch road shape graphic patterns and the received arrangement designation data; and a direction guide map display section displays the prepared direction guide map in a display device.
