摘要： When trichloroisocyanuric acid is produced by a process which comprises supplying unreacted chlorine from a second reaction zone to a cooled mixture of cyanuric acid and an aqueous alkali solution in a first reaction zone to form a partially chlorinated alkali salt of cyanuric acid, and introducing the reaction product of the first reaction zone and chlorine into the second reaction zone to complete the chlorination of the reaction product from the first reaction zone, the supply of the chlorine into the second reaction zone is so controlled as to ensure that the mixture in the first reaction zone be maintained at a temperature of 5.degree. C. to 20.degree. C. The second reaction zone is advantageously defined by a vertically disposed loop-shaped reactor.

摘要： Chloroisocyanuric acids are made by reacting an aqueous suspension of cyanuric acid while stirring with an alkali metal compound in the presence of chlorine gas between 0.degree. and 40.degree. C. at a pH of less than 7. More particularly, the reaction is effected in a system gastightly sealed with respect to the outside; a chlorine gas atmosphere with pressure of more than 500 millibars is established above the continuously renewed (by agitation) surface of the cyanuric acid suspension, and the pressure is maintained; the alkali metal compound is an alkali metal hydroxide solution which is added to the cyanuric acid suspension at a rate sufficient for the resulting reaction mixture to always present a pH of less than 7.

摘要： An improved method for reacting a gas with a liquid medium and an improved reactor therefore is described. In this method, gas is fed to the liquid medium in an agitated reactor through a plurality of sparger means which are positioned in the horizontal cross sectional area of the reactor between the reactor perimeter and the central agitator vortex. In addition, the gas spargers are located in separate segments of the cross sectional area. The improved method and reactor are particularly suitable in glass lined reactors which are employed in the preparation of halogenated isocyanurates such as trichloroisocyanuric acid by the chlorination of an aqueous solution of monosodium cyanurate and hypochlorous acid.

摘要： Granular alkali metal dihaloisocyanurate particles (such as sodium dichloroisocyanurate) comprised of a core of alkali metal dihaloisocyanurate encapsulated in a plurality of layers of hydrated alkali metal dihaloisocyanurate are produced by spraying a pumpable and sprayable aqueous slurry of hydrated alkali metal dihaloisocyanurate particles onto suspended particles of solid alkali metal dihaloisocyanurate in anhydrous or hydrated form above a moving bed of said particles. The solid particles coated with the slurry are heated to simultaneously evaporate and remove water from the slurry whereby said particles are coated with a layer of solid hydrated alkali metal dihaloisocyanurate.A portion of the moving bed of coated particles is removed from the spraying zone and further processed, if desired. In one embodiment, the hydrated particles are sized, and undersize and crushed oversize are recycled to the moving bed. In another embodiment, the coated particles, with or without sizing, are dried to produce granular particles having the desired moisture content or degree of hydration.The resulting coated or layered granular particles of hydrated alkali metal dihaloisocyanurate have a high level of integrity and resist degradation and dusting when subjected to rather severe handling conditions. In addition, the novel granular hydrated alkali metal dihaloisocyanurate particles of this invention are highly stable when contacted with lighted cigarettes, organic materials and the like.

摘要： A process is described for disposing of off-gases comprised of a gaseous mixture of chlorine and carbon dioxide such as off-gases produced in hypochlorous acid generators. The off-gases are reacted with an aqueous solution of an alkaline compound and a reducing agent to produce a substantially neutral aqueous solution containing alkali metal salts which can be safely discarded. This disposal process can be used, for example, in a cyclic process for the production of chloroisocyanuric acids by the reaction of hypochlorous acid with cyanuric acid, an alkali metal cyanurate or an alkaline earth metal cyanurate, where chlorine containing carbon dioxide is used to generate the hypochlorous acid.
