    • A beverage can tray floor has a plurality of redoubts on its bottom surface for cooperation with the rims of cans in a sub-adjacent tray to impede free sliding movement of an upper tray over the rims of cans in a sub-adjacent tray, while enabling the upper tray to be slid over the cans in the lower tray. The redoubts include at least one elongate, tapered redoubt that extends in spanning relationship to the rim of a can to facilitate initial lateral sliding movement. The tray also has peripheral heel protector bands extending around a bottom portion thereof to protect the heels of cans, and upstanding can spacer members between can seating areas to maintain cans in the tray spaced from one another and prevent displacement of the cans from their seating areas when the tray is tilted. The sidewall includes a plurality of spaced pillars extending upwardly from the floor and supporting a peripheral top rail. The pillars are omitted and/or shortened in some areas to provide smooth, uninterrupted portions of the top rail which serve as handles. Spaces are defined between the upper ends of at least some of the pillars and the top rail, and upwardly projecting tabs on the upper ends of some of the pillars extend into the spaces when the trays are stacked to prevent wedging of the trays.

    • A paperboard separating sheet (10) for separating two stacked layers of cans (11, 12) is disclosed. The sheet has a plurality of can receiving locations (13), each location having an inner opening (23) and an outer opening (24), respectively, each one of the openings being defined by a series of cuts (23, 24), respectively, in the paperboard sheet. The cuts define first, second, and third covering portions (20, 21, 22), respectively, which are joined together by a plurality of tabs (25, 26), respectively, which allow the respective covering portions to move into different planes relative to one another when the separating sheet is sandwiched between two stacked cans. In use, the third portion of the separating sheets rests on a top rim of a lower can (11), the second portion of the paperboard sheet sits between the top rim of the can and a recessed panel in which a can opening device is formed, and the first portion of the paperboard sheet covers the can opening device. So constructed, the paperboard sheet allows an upper can to rest upon a lower can without metal-to-metal contact between the cans.

    • A stackable case for retaining and transporting bottles including outer side walls forming an outer shell having a longitudinal axis and a horizontal axis, a case bottom disposed substantially within the outer shell, and a plurality of supports for supporting the outer surfaces of the bottles and which, in combination with the outer shell and the case bottom, define a plurality of bottle retaining pockets. A first receiving structure extends above the height of a top surface of one of the side walls and has a first longitudinal recess and a first transverse recess for cross-stacking with an upper identical case by receiving a side wall of the upper identical case when the lower cross-stacking case is empty. A second receiving structure having a second longitudinal recess along the longitudinal axis of the case and a second transverse recess along an axis parallel to the transverse axis of the case is also provided in a preferred embodiment. Ribs corresponding to the location of the receiving structures are disposed on the bottom of the case such that the size of the openings in the bottom structure is reduced. The case also includes a handle structure which allows the bottle case to be manipulated with either a palm up or palm down orientation of the hand.
