摘要： An occupant restraint assembly and for a motor vehicle operates to sense the tension forces on a seat belt to detect the presence of a human occupant or a child restraint seat. A sensor attached to the seat belt measures tension forces. The sensor is mounted in line with the seat belt. A strain gauge senses tension on the seat belt. An additional embodiment of the sensor includes three prongs attached to a common beam that allow the sensor to be slipped onto the seat belt without modification to the seat belt. A middle prong includes the strain gauge to sense movement relative to outside prongs. The seat belt threads over the outside prongs and under the middle prong such that tension on the seat belt forces the middle prong transversely to tension exerted on the seat belt.

A child-seat seat bottom has a first surface, a second surface located below the first surface, and a slot extending through the first surface and toward the second surface. The member includes a portion which is resiliently biased toward the second surface and into engagement with an aligned one of the notches. The member is movable in the slot and away from the second surface for disengagement of the portion from the aligned notch. When the portion is so disengaged, the member is movable across the slot to move the portion between the first and second notches.

A bottom support is pivotally mounted to the back support and moveable between a stowed position and a deployed position for supporting the child in the seated posture when in the deployed position. A pair of shoulder belts extend over the back support and are constructed and arranged to secure the torso of the child to the back support. A pair of lap belts extend over the bottom support and are constructed and arranged to secure a lap region of the child. A crotch belt is integrally connected to the lap belts and extends upwardly from the bottom support for locking engagement with the shoulder belts. The assembly is characterized by a retarding device integrally formed within the bottom support and engaging the crotch belt for limiting movement of the crotch belt and the lap belts relative to the bottom support to ensure a proper fitting relationship between the belts and the child.

The upper end portion can be releasably secured to the back part of the seat.
