    • An expansion nozzle for conducting melt from a floating manifold to a mold assembly comprises a bushing having a bushing flange and spigot having a passage therethrough joining a nozzle inlet and an outlet, a head having a seating surface and a bore through the head slidably receiving the spigot so that the spigot is movable relative to the head over a range from abutting contact of opposing surfaces of the head and bushing flange to a limit of axial separation of the opposing surfaces, axial separation of opposing surfaces of the head and bushing flange being maintained throughout an operating temperature range. Springs maintain sealing contact of a seating surface of the head with a mating surface of the mold assembly. Advantageously, a locating ring provides a reaction surface for the springs and supports the head to resist moments arising from axial misalignment of the expansion nozzle and mold assembly.

    • A device for the injection moulding of moulded bodies made from plastic is disclosed, comprising an injection moulding unit (1) and a tool (2) dedicated thereto. At least two cavities (11, 12), corresponding to the dimensions of the moulded body for production are provided on the tool (2) and the tool comprises at least three pieces (4, 5, 6), which move relative to each other and which lie adjacent to each other on separating planes (9, 10). Each separating plane (9, 10) runs through at least one cavity (11, 12). At least one channel (13) for the introduction of molten plastic is provided in the tool (2), which terminates at one end in the cavities (11, 12) and at the other end thereof at an inlet (14) on the surface of the tool (2), which is connected to the injection moulding unit (1) in the working position. In order to increase the number of moulded bodies produced per unit time, a channel (13) is provided in the tool (2), reaching from the inlet (14) to a first separating plane (9) and further leading to the second separation plane (10).

    • A nozzle controls flow of melt in injection molding equipment by passive actuation with opening and closing of a mold assembly. The nozzle comprises a valve pin having a pin passage therethrough movably supported within a nozzle passage and a contact arm transverse to and extending beyond the nozzle passage, the valve pin sealingly engaging the nozzle passage. Biasing means biases the valve pin to a closed position preventing passage of melt through the nozzle. The contact arm effects movement of the valve pin to an open position when closing of the mold assembly exerts a force on the contact arm to overcome the biasing means. A mold arrangement of plural mold assemblies comprises pairs of nozzles of the invention to control flow of melt through mating conduit segments between an injection unit and at least one mold assembly, the nozzles arranged and configured for seating engagement with abutment of the conduit segments.

    • According to the present invention, a cross over nozzle is provided of two parts which, when joined, define a housing having a passage extending therethrough, a tapered valve seat extending about the passage and a valve member having a tapered valve head disposed in the passage for engaging the valve seat. The two parts are axially separable at an interface extending through the valve seat/valve head. In order to open the valve, both valve parts are first joined and then moved together as one member in the same direction relative to the housing axially away from the valve seat. Similarly, the valve members are jointly moved into engagement with the valve seat before the cross over nozzle is separated. Accordingly, unlike the valve gate design, the valve interface between the two parts of the valve head isn't exposed to molten resin and therefore molten resin isn't trapped therebetween to cause a string upon opening.

    • A melt transfer system is provided for a stack mold. The melt transfer system includes first and second transfer bushings arranged in opposing platens of the mold. Each transfer bushing defines a portion of a runner passage communicating at shear gates disposed in a shearing surface that is parallel to the direction of opening and closing movement for said platens in order to shear the melt when the platens are moving from a closed position to an open position. In another aspect, the shearing surfaces are normal to the direction of movement of the platens and at least one of the transfer bushings is rotatable relative to the platen for shearing the melt. In another aspect, a transfer bushing is provided having a core formed of an insulative material and a shell formed of a conductive material. The core defines a channel for conducting melt between a shear gate at one end of the channel and an aperture at another end of the channel.
