    • An apparatus for slitting a hot rolled process section having parallel bars connected to together along at least one of their lengthwise edges, while the process section is moving longitudinally along a rolling line. The apparatus comprises first and second pairs of upper and lower rotatably driven slitting rollers positioned sequentially along the rolling line, with the slitting rollers of each pair being and arranged to engage opposite sides of the process section. The slitting rollers of the first pair have profiles configured to break the connection between at least some of the bars of the process section while allowing the connections between other bars of the process section to remain intact, and the slitting rollers of the second pair have profiles configured to break the remaining intact connections between the other bars of the process section.

    • The invention relates to a rolling mill (1) which is used to hot roll metal, in particular aluminium. Said rolling mill comprises a hot strip mill (3) provided with a pre-rolling train (4) and a finishing rolling train (5). The aim of the invention is to improve said rolling mill such that it is more compact and/or such that the systems, which are already compact, are more productive. The pre-rolling train (4) is embodied as a tandem train, wherein the rolling product is milled in a tandem mode for jointly involving at least two pre-rolling frames (8, 9) arranged one behind the other. Alternatively or simultaneously, the pre-rolling train (4) and the finishing train (5) work together as a tandem train. Milling occurs place in the tandem mode when the frame of the pre-rolling train and the finishing train are used together. In the finishing train, milling can take place, preferably, in a reversing tandem mode.

    • A blanking line including an uncoiler, a first feeder, a slitter, and a shear. A coil of metal is carried by the uncoiler. The first feeder removes the material from the coil and typically includes a leveler for leveling the metal. The metal is fed from the leveler into a looping pit that is located between the leveler and slitter. The slitter feeds and slits the material a predetermined distance and is driven with servo motors. The looping pit acts as an accumulator allowing the metal to hang so the slitter can move metal intermittently into a shear while the leveler runs at a constant rate. The shear cuts the material to a predetermined length corresponding with the distance that the material is fed by the slitter. A measuring wheel may be included to measure the distance that the material is moved by the slitter.

    • A process for producing thick aluminum/aluminum alloy sheet useful for truck parts and the like includes the steps of feeding molten aluminum/aluminum alloy (10) into a direct casting apparatus (12) to provide an ingot that is subjected to a cooling (15) and optional scalping step (14), followed by hot rolling (18) to provide a sheet having a thickness for from about 3.2 mm to 5.8 mm and is suitable to coil in step (20), and where the sheet is cooled (21) to form 15null C. to 60null C. and cold rolled (22, 24) at from about 120null C. to 160null C. to reduce the sheet to from about 0.9 mm to 1.5 mm and cool (23, 25) it to from 120null C. to 160null C., where heat generated during the cold rolling (22, 24) stabilizes the sheet without additional energy intensive oven furnace anealing. The reduced sheet can then be trimmed (28) and coated (30) as with paint or the like.
