    • In a waste pulping apparatus, an impeller assembly comprises a rotating blade for pulping solid waste to form a slurry, the rotating blade having an axis of rotation, a base and a plurality of ears that axially extend away from the base. The impeller assembly also includes a sieve ring having axially opposed first and second ends, an inner cylindrical surface and an outer cylindrical surface, where the sieve ring encircles the base of the rotating blade at the first end so that a portion of the ears are radially spaced inside the inner cylindrical surface so that the ears rotate within the sieve ring. A plurality of pumping vanes are also provided for pumping the slurry, where each pumping vane has a pumping surface that rotates radially outside the outer cylindrical surface of the sieve ring. Preferably, the pumping vanes can be easily changed to allow for various head condition while providing a predetermined pumping capacity.

    • A waste compaction and liquid extraction system is provided. The system includes a tank for containing liquid and solids. The tank has an input port for receiving liquid, and an output port for discharging a mixture of liquid and solids. A rotary disc impeller is mounted in the tank for grinding the solids to form the mixture. The impeller has a rotating blade with inclined and bevelled cutting members. Each cutting member has a helical leading edge. The tank conducts the mixture to the output port. A stationary helical screw is horizontally mounted to the output port of the tank. The screw has a receiving end adjacent to the output port and a discharge end. The screw has a tapered shaft that increases in diameter towards the discharge end. A sieve is provided having a cylindrical sieve surface surrounding the screw. The liquid drains through the sieve surface. The sieve is rotatably mounted to the output port of the tank. The sieve rotates about the screw to move the solids longitudinally towards the discharge end of the screw. A restrictor at the end of the sieve maintains backpressure to squeeze liquid out of the partially dried solids. A housing surrounds the sieve. The housing is mounted to the input port of the tank for communicating liquid that drains from the sieve back to the tank by way of the input port.

    • Disclosed is a wet process recovery system for solid waste. The waste is fed into a hydrokinetic separation step wherein it is immersed in a body of water which is subjected to rising and lateral flows. These flows establish a synthetic gravitational environment to effect separation of solids above and below a predetermined density greater than the density of water. The solids having the higher densities are collected by gravity and transported from the water for recycling. A modified hammermill is connected to the body of water and the rising and lateral fluid flows cooperate to carry waste into a cutting and ejecting mechanism which both shears friable waste and dynamically ejects non-friable waste back into the liquid. The output of the hammermill is a slurry of comminuted waste in the liquid. This is pumped to a centrifuge separator where solid waste is separated from liquid and the liquid recirculated to the body of water to create the flows in that body. The solid waste output is in a deliquified form suitable for use in a waste to energy incineration process.

    • A wet grinding machine which includes a grinder head, an annular stator having a mounting portion mounted on the grinder head and joined by a body portion to a skirt portion, and a rotor rotatably mounted on the grinder head. The rotor includes a hub portion joined by an annular body portion to an annular skirt portion inside of the annular stator. Outwardly extending slots in the body portion of the rotor define shearing blades in the body portion. Outwardly extending shearing slots in the body portion of the stator are opposed to the shearing blades. Each of the shearing slots slopes and overlaps at least one adjacent shearing blade. As the rotor turns, each of the blades is constantly opposed to and addresses at least one of the shearing slots. There are inlet openings in the stator skirt and in the rotor skirt. The rotor is turned to cause the rotor blades to induce a slurry to flow through the inlet openings of the stator skirt and rotor skirt and rotor body to the shearing slots and to shear particles of slurry entering the shearing slots. The stator skirt being extendable to receive slurry to be ground at a desired location spaced from the grinder head, and an eductor for adding material to the slurry moving through the rotor skirt so the material is substantially evenly mixed in the slurry exiting from the grinder head.
