    • An apparatus and method for recovering elemental carbon, elemental sulfur, elemental iron, elemental gold and other elemental materials from an air flow including a funnel-shaped receptor and an inverted cone-shape electrode node body spaced from the funnel receptor, a funnel-shaped reaction zone between the outer surface of the electrode node body and the inner surface of the receptor for receiving the air flow, and a plurality of point source electrodes mounted to the electrode node body and projecting into the reaction zone. The electrode node body and the receptor are electrically isolated from each other, the receptor is connected to ground, and a voltage source is electrically connected to the electrode node body. The apparatus and method may be used for treating an air flow containing pollutants generated from the burning of fossil fuels, trash and other materials to reduce the oxides to elemental matter and water and to remove the elemental matter from the air flow, for treating emissions of coal-operated power plants to improve their efficiency by recovering carbon from the plant emissions and reusing the recovered carbon as fuel, to reduce landfill requirements by burning trash in incinerators and treating the incinerator emissions to recover elemental material which is then landfilled in far less space than the original unburned trash, and to produce valuable elemental material such as fullerenes.

    • The invention relates to a process and a device for the removal of dust, HF, HCl, SO2, SO3, heavy metals, heavy-metal compounds, polyhalogenated hydrocarbons and polycyclic hydrocarbons from combustion flue gases by treating the pollutant-containing combustion flue gases with a sorbent in a circulating fluidized bed. The process is characterized in that the sorbent used is a mixture of Ca(OH)2, at least one naturally occurring zeolite and a carbon-containing substance, in that the treatment of the pollutant-containing combustion flue gases with the sorbent is carried out at from 120 to 180null C. in the presence of water/steam, in that the reactor (3) of the circulating fluidized bed is operated at a gas velocity of from 2 to 10 m/s, a mean residence time of the solids particles in the case of a single pass of from 1 to 10 seconds, and a solids circulation rate of from 10 to 100, where the gas/solid suspension present in the reactor (3) has a mean suspension density of from 1 to 10 kg of solid/Nm3 of flue gas, and in that the removal of the loaded sorbent is carried out by filtration.

    • An air and water purifying device includes a housing having an annular space containing a suitable adsorbent or desiccant material. The housing includes an inner wall forming an axial passage and an outer wall and end caps closing the annular space. The inner and outer walls include a plurality of slots extending in a circumferential direction to allow the flow of water or air through the annular space in a radial direction. The end caps of the housing include a central opening aligned with the axial passage to allow the flow of air or water through the housing. The container enclosing the adsorbent can be supported in a housing to support the container and face the outer wall of the container from the walls of the housing to allow the flow of air around the container. The housing preferably includes at least one permeable wall to allow air to flow into the housing. End walls of the housing include openings aligned with the axial passage of the container to allow the flow of air through the adsorbent or desiccant material.

    • A fluid-permeable wall component of a sandwich-type construction has a slotted hole screen with substantially parallel extending vertical slot-limiting elements. A stabilizing grate is connected to the slot-limiting elements and includes connecting rods extending transverse to the slot-limiting elements and a louver-type construction with slats that extend transverse to the slot-limiting elements. The wall component is employed in an adsorption medium reactor of the fluidized bed type as a dividing wall for dividing the treatment chamber into compartments or an outer limiting wall. It retains particles of the adsorption medium within the divided compartments of the treatment chamber without obstructing the transverse fluid flow and allows separate removal of adsorption medium from either compartment.
