    • The angle activated training device, in one embodiment, is worn on the backside of a golfer's rearward shoe. In another embodiment, the training device is mounted onto the shaft of a golf club. The shoe device includes a compact container no larger than the backside of a golfer's shoe. The container is mounted on to the shoe via a clip-on mechanism. The container includes, in its interior, a power source, a control switch, an alarm consisting of either a vibratory alarm or an audible alarm and an angle activated switch. Since these items are electrically coupled together, when the control switch is closed, a vibratory or an audible alarm is issued when the backside of a golfer's shoe is in horizontal position at a final finish position of a golfer's strike. The angle activated training device mounted on the shaft of a golf club includes the same electrical components but the alarm is issued when the club passes through one of at least two horizontal positions when the club is properly swung by a golfer. In another embodiment, the angle activated device on the shaft of a golf club issued alarms when the device passes through each of two predetermined angular positions of the club.

    • A sports training aid has a pair of foot sensors, insertable in a pair of shoes, which generate measurement signals indicative of weight applied to each of the foot sensors. The training aid compares the measurement signals with a specified range of values and produces audible sounds indicative of the relationship between those measurement signals and the specified range of values, thereby providing the training aid's user with immediate audible feedback regarding weight shifts. A grip sensing version of the sports training aid uses a grip pressure sensor which generates a measurement signal indicative of grip pressure applied to the handle of a swingable object, such as a golf club or baseball bat. When the user's grip pressure falls outside specified threshold values, audible tones are generated. In both versions, the user receives the audible feedback signals via a headset worn while using the sports training aid. A spinal tilt version is used to train a person to maintain proper spinal tilt during a sports motion, and a shoulder rotation is used to train a person to achieve a proper degree of shoulder rotation during a sports motion such as the golf backswing. In each version, the sensor(s) include a transmitter which transmits the measurement signals at a predefined frequency. The transmitted measurement signals are received by a comparator which compares the received signals with the specified range of values. As a result, the sensors and comparator need not be physically connected.

    • An apparatus for measuring a sportsman's weight distribution during a practice swing includes a detector (60) for sensing weight upon a first and second detection pad (30) constructed and arranged to receive the sportman's feet. The detector (60) generates weight signals as a function of the weight upon the pads (30). A controller (21) receives the weight signals and generates a data output set representative of the change in weight distribution upon the first and second detection pads (30) with reference to a point (42) within the practice swing. A reference detector (22) generates a reference signal corresponding to impact by the sportman (12) upon a ball (16) which corresponds to the reference point within the practice swing. Each of the detection pads (30) comprises a base (32) and at least one cantilevered member (34) mounted in spaced, cantilevered relation relative to the base and disposed to receive one of the sportsmens feet. A weight sensing gauge (60) is operationally mounted on each of the cantilevered members (34 ) for sensing the weight thereon and generating weight signals. The output data set is stored and can be displayed either immediately or at a later time.

    • A system for analyzing the balance of a golfer during a golf swing and to determine weight shifts from one foot to the other and between the heel and toe of each foot during a golf swing. Basically the system comprises two foot pads capable of measuring weight on each pad and on the front and rear portions of each pad, a display for displaying weight information in digital and/or graphical form, a sound sensor for sensing the impact of a golf club against a golf ball and a microprocessor system for receiving information from the pads and generating the display. In use, a golfer positions the foot pads where his feet would be in his normal golf stance, arranges the display in front of the pads a safe distance away, positions the cable between footpads and display out of the way and places a normal golf ball on a tee or on the ground the appropriate distance from the footpads. The unit is turned on and parameters are set, the golfer stands on the footpads and then takes his normal swing at the golf ball. Typically, the display will show the weight on the pads at full backswing, at impact (as triggered by the sound of club hitting ball) and at full follow through. The readings may be compared to ideal readings or be saved for comparison among swings by the golfer. The results may be used by the golfer to adjust his swing toward the optimum.
