摘要： A patient positioning device for use in simulation and treatment via radiation therapy of the ipsilateral breast of a patient while in the prone position. The patient positioning device has (A) an MRI coil support system comprising (a) at least one of (1) a first MRI coil support structure at the superior end of the device, and (2) a second MRI coil support structure at the inferior end of the device, wherein the first and/or second support structures are dimensioned and configured to receive and engage a first MRI coil at one or more positions and oriented in the vertical plane, and (b) an MRI support assembly comprising a housing dimensioned and configured to receive and engage a second MRI coil, wherein the MRI support assembly is configured to allow adjustment of the position of the housing relative to the one or more positions for receiving and engaging the first MRI coil, (B) an aperture through which the ipsilateral breast can hang into a radiation therapy treatment field, and (C) a provision to support the contralateral breast such that it is held out of the radiation therapy treatment field. Both the first and second MRI coils are positioned such that neither comes in physical contact with the ipsilateral breast.

摘要： A patient support device for accurately and repeatably positioning a patient for treatment. The device comprises a top surface, a bottom surface, two sides and at least two sidewalls. The device can include an integral indexing means and an accessory device adaptor for receiving various accessories. The device can incorporate chamfered edge technology and can include indexing grooves on at least one surface of the device. In another embodiment, the present invention includes asymmetric indexing that can be achieved by using different indexing features from one side of the receiving device to the other. This asymmetric indexing is accomplished by using indexing features on either side of the receiving device that do not have the same geometry. As an alternative, the features can be of different geometries and the opposing features can be offset. When offset, the portion of the couchtop directly opposing a feature will be free of an indexing feature.

摘要： The present invention provides a patient couch top or device for quickly and accurately positioning a patient during simulation and treatment by placing a series of small fiducial markers in discrete locations on the couch top or device. With use of the fiducial markers, the present invention allows for the correction for misalignment and deformation of patient positioning equipment which occurs due in part to a patient's size and weight. The present invention also provides a method for positioning a patient and correcting for deformation of the couch top or device.
