    • In an inkjet printing apparatus utilizing an inkjet head and an ink tank for supplying ink to the same, it is made possible to suppress any reduction in image quality attributable to changes in physical and chemical properties of the ink that occur during an elapsed time from the manufacture of the ink tank to the use of the same, thereby allowing images to be formed with high reliability and stability at a low running cost. The apparatus has a discharging unit for discharging the ink through a nozzle at the head and an ink detecting unit for detecting the consumption of the ink in the ink tank. The detected ink consumption is compared with a threshold for ink consumption appropriately determined based on the elapsed time, and control is performed such that the amount discharged by the discharging unit is increased when the ink has not been consumed sufficiently.

    • A liquid crystal display device includes a liquid crystal panel having a plurality of scanning electrodes including first and second scanning electrodes, a plurality of signal electrodes including a first signal electrode, and a liquid crystal layer. A display is generated based on display data including first and second display data. The liquid crystal display device further includes a scanning electrode driver which outputs a scanning voltage to the first scanning electrode in a first scanning period and outputs a scanning voltage to the second scanning electrode in a second scanning period following the first scanning period. A signal electrode driver outputs a first voltage corresponding to the first display data to the first signal electrode in the first scanning period and outputs a second voltage corresponding to the second display data to the first signal electrode in the second scanning period. The signal electrode driver compares the first display data and the second display data and, when the first display data and the second display data are different, outputs a third voltage for correcting a reduction of an effective voltage of the second voltage for a correction duration in the second scanning period.

    • In a phased-array sound pickup apparatus microphones are divided into a first and second subarrays, the microphones of the first subarray having individual unidirectional response patterns oriented on one side of the normal to the array and the microphones of the second subarray having their response patterns oriented on the other side of the normal so that the array's main lobe assumes different orientation from the orientation of the microphone's individual response patterns so that the array's unwanted back lobe falls outside of the microphone's response patterns. The microphones may be grouped into a plurality of pairs and the signals from the paired microphones are mixed so that different individual response patterns are generated in correlation with the array's main front lobe to cause the unwanted back lobe to occur outside of the individual response patterns.
