摘要： A mechanism for locating information about a target entity in disparate multilevel hierarchical knowledge repositories. Upon occurrence of an event associated with a target entity comprising an information technology solution, disparate multilevel hierarchical knowledge repositories are searched for metadata about the target entity. A determination is made from the metadata about the target entity whether the repositories comprise entities related to the target entity. If so, links in the metadata are used to search the repositories to locate the related entities. Upon locating a resolution to the event in the repositories, a link to the resolution is stored in the metadata. The repositories are also searched to determine owners of the target entity and related entities, and these owners are then notified of the event and the resolution to the event.

In one embodiment of the invention, data may be acquired by monitoring an environmental variable. Based on the acquired data, statistics may be calculated which model the behavior of the environmental variable. A difference between the long-term statistics and the short-term statistics may then be calculated. If the difference between the long-term statistical behavior and short-term statistical behavior exceeds a dynamic or predefined threshold, an action may be taken.

摘要： Brightness correction and image enhancement are derived to compensate for changes in captured image data by hardware scanners and the like by statistically measuring the captured data and generating or selecting a compensation quantization table to be substituted in image data encoded for compression. Three techniques of compensation usable singly or in combination are provided which may be used in combination with techniques for dynamic range reduction for extreme compression. Thus, improved images which may be enhanced in any desired manner, for example, to conform to an established image standard, may be derived from data having sufficient compression to allow economically acceptable long-term storage in high-speed access storage media even though the data captured is degraded in dynamic range, brightness and the like.

摘要： A method and system for a printing device is disclosed. The method and system comprise printing a test pattern on a print medium and generating a digital image of the printed test pattern by an imaging device. The method and system include analyzing an interference pattern to measure for distortion of the print medium and calibrating the printing device based upon the measured distortion.In a preferred embodiment, the present invention utilizes the reticle patterns, which are printed in the margins of the paper, which are measured real-time during printing. The interference or Moiré patterns created by superimposed reticles may be used to measure image distortion, process direction misalignment, and misregistration caused by web distortion. The advantage of this invention is that image distortion compensation, RIP (Raster Image Processor) parameters, timing, or other printer characteristics may be adjusted on-the-fly in a closed feedback system, for high-speed textile or paper color printing, utilizing on-the-fly distortion or stretch measurement for accurate color and/or duplex images registration. In a duplex printer, automatic images alignment front-to-back is obtained by combining optically or logically the two images for the evaluation of interference patterns and amount of distortion in the process and scan direction.

摘要： Increased and potentially extreme compression of documents is achieved by reducing/remapping the dynamic range of the document image possibly together with further image analysis and pre-processing and storing the document together with a substituted table of values chosen to restore or enhance the dynamic range of the document image. Increased or extreme compression is provided notwithstanding multiple image tones (e.g. colors or grey scale levels) even at low contrast within a document, such as a personal check. Such increased compression allows document images to be maintained in rapid-access memory for extended periods without increased storage costs.

摘要： An article of insulation includes a plurality of containers supported by at least one support layer. Each of the containers have rigid walls which enclose either a vacuum or a gas. When in water, the rigid-wall containers provide insulation and buoyancy which makes the insulation ideal for clothing and wet suits. These properties may be enhanced by making the support layer from thermal insulation material and/or one which itself exhibits a desired buoyancy. The containers may be formed as beads which are spherical or non-spherical in shape, or the containers may have a tubular shape. Further, the beads may all be of the same size or the sizes may be varied to achieve desired buoyancy and/or insulation properties. A wet suit made from this insulation outperforms conventional wet suits in terms of insulation, buoyancy, comfort, safety, thinness, and functionality. An article of clothing made from this insulation may be used to keep a wearer afloat until help arrives.
