    • To control individually a plurality of loads to be turned on by combining a switching regulator with a charge pump circuit using some of the components of the switching regulator. An LED is controlled to be turned on by a switching regulator having an NMOS transistor connected to a transformer and a control circuit for generating an on/off signal. An LED is controlled to be turned on by a charge pump circuit that shares the NMOS transistor and the control circuit with the switching regulator to charge a condenser with an electric charge during an operation for turning on the NMOS transistor and discharge the electric charge accumulated in the condenser during an operation for turning off the NMOS transistor. Thus, circuit structure is simplified.

    • There is provided a vehicular lamp that can prevent excess current from flowing between an anode and a cathode at the lighting-up start to prevent a damage and life shortening of a cold cathode fluorescent lamp at low cost. The vehicular lamp includes: a cold cathode fluorescent lamp having a cathode, a gate, and an anode; and a lighting controlling unit operable to pre-discharge electricity from the cathode to the gate prior to lighting of the cold cathode fluorescent lamp, in which the lighting controlling unit applies a voltage between the cathode and the anode after once lowering a voltage between the cathode and the gate and then again applies an extraction voltage between the cathode and the gate in order to begin to discharge electricity from the cathode to the anode. The lighting controlling unit may pre-discharge electricity from the cathode to the gate until the temperature of the cathode is substantially equal to that of lighting-up time.

    • A lighting device for a vehicle comprises: a plurality of light source sections connected in parallel with each other; and a transformer for supplying an electric power to the plurality of light source sections. The transformer includes a primary coil and a plurality of secondary coils provided corresponding to the plurality of light source sections, for respectively supplying electric power to the corresponding light source sections. One end of each light source section is grounded and a semiconductor light emitting element is provided between one end and the other end of the light source section.     • A discharge lamp illumination circuit 1 has a DC-AC conversion circuit 3 which effects DC-AC conversion and boosting upon receipt of a DC input, and a starter circuit 4. The DC-AC conversion circuit 3 has an AC transformer 7, a plurality of switching elements 5H and 5L, and a resonance capacitor 8. The switching elements are activated by control means 6, thereby inducing series resonance between the resonance capacitor 8 and an inductance component of the AC transformer 7, or between the resonance capacitor 8 and an inductance element connected to the resonance capacitor 8. In connection with the operating frequency of the switching elements, a first frequency value is a frequency value of a period when outputs are open before the discharge lamp 10 is illuminated, and a second frequency value is a frequency value of a period from illumination of the discharge lamp by the starter circuit until elapse of a predetermined time period or a time period which is specified in accordance with an illumination state. The first frequency value is specified to be identical with the first frequency value, or to be close to the first frequency value.

    • There is provided a vehicular lamp at low cost. A power source apparatus includes: an output controlling switch operable to intermittently carry an electric current; an output coil operable to accumulate energy according to the current flowing into the output controlling switch and to output an electric power based on the accumulated energy when the output controlling switch is turned off; an end detecting unit operable to detect that the output coil ends the output of the power; and an output controlling unit, in which the output controlling unit includes: a time memorizing unit that memorizes OFF time for which the output controlling switch should be kept off; a switch controlling unit that switches the output controlling switch on and off based on the OFF time memorized in the time memorizing unit; and a time changing unit that changes the OFF time memorized in the time memorizing unit. The time changing unit increases the OFF time when the end detecting unit is not detecting the end of the output and decreases the OFF time when the end detecting unit is detecting the end of the output, in the timing when the output controlling switch is turned on.

    • A discharge lamp lighting circuit adapted to control a transient power corresponding to a cooling condition or a light-out time of a discharge lamp without using a capacitor or storage device having a large capacity, thereby reducing a cost and a size. Power control in a steady state of a discharge lamp is carried out in response to a detection signal for a voltage and a current in the discharge lamp, and a power to be transiently applied to the discharge lamp is controlled before a transition to the power control. The power to be transiently applied is set to be higher than the power in the steady state, thereby promoting light emission of the discharge lamp. An increment in the transient applied power which exceeds the power in the steady state is specified corresponding to a voltage applied to the discharge lamp, a variation in the voltage and a time elapsed from a time that the discharge lamp is lighted up or a start of an operation of a lighting circuit. More specifically, a dedicated circuit for detecting the light-out time of the discharge lamp is eliminated to utilize only detection information required for the power control of the discharge lamp.
