摘要： A ferroelectric liquid crystal device comprising: a pair of substrates each having a plurality of electrodes oppositely spaced from each other and intersecting with each other, and a ferroelectric liquid crystal layer disposed between the substrates and having a thickness small enough to release a helical structure in the absence of an electric field, a pixel being formed at each intersection of the opposite electrodes formed on the pair of substrates while leaving non-pixel portions at which the opposite electrodes do not face each other. The ferroelectric liquid crystal yields two stable orientation states providing two average molecular axes forming an angle 2.theta. therebetween under no electric field. The ferroelectric liquid crystal yields two states providing two average molecular axes forming an angle 2 .circle.H therebetween. The ferroelectric liquid crystal at the non-pixel portions forms an orientation state providing an average molecular axis forming an angle .theta. or -.theta..

摘要： An optical modulation device, such as a ferroelectric liquid crystal device, comprises a matrix of pixels arranged in a plurality of rows and a plurality of columns, pixels on each row being electrically connected to a scanning electrode and pixels on each column being electrically connected to a signal electrode. The optical modulation device is driven by a method comprising, in a scanning selection period applying a scanning selection signal to a selected scanning electrode, the scanning selection signal comprising plural voltage levels including a maximum value .vertline.Vs.max.vertline. in terms of an absolute value with respect to the voltage level of a non-selected scanning electrode, and applying in phase with the scanning selection signal a voltage signal comprising plural voltage levels to a signal electrode so as to apply to a pixel on the selected scanning electrode plural pulse voltages including a maximum value voltage .vertline.Vmax.vertline. and a minimum pulse voltage .vertline.Vmin.vertline. respectively in terms of an absolute value, satisfying the relationship of:.vertline.Vmax.vertline.-.vertline.Vmin.vertline..ltoreq..vertline.Vs.max.vertline..

摘要： A liquid crystal display panel comprising: a liquid crystal display section; an array section of switching elements connected to first information signal lines of the liquid crystal display section, respectively; a driving circuit section which divides the switching element array section into a plurality of blocks and time-sharingly drives these blocks on a block unit basis; second information signal lines of wirings as many as the number of switching elements of one block among those blocks being connected to the driving circuit section; an information signal output circuit for applying an information signal to the second information signal lines; and an arithmetic operating circuit for correcting the information signal which is applied to the second information signal line in the previous block near the next block between the previous block which is previously driven and the next block which is driven next when the panel is time-sharingly driven for every block to an information signal to eliminate a high luminance which is produced in the first information signal line connected to this second information signal line.
