    • An outboard motor includes a housing unit that forms an outer wall exposed outside. An engine is disposed above the housing unit. The engine defines a water jacket. A water transfer system is arranged to introduce water from outside of the housing unit to deliver the water to the water jacket and to discharge the water to a location out of the housing unit. The water transfer system includes first and second water passages defined within the housing unit. The first water passage communicates with the water jacket. The second water passage does not communicate with the water jacket. The water transfer system delivers a portion of the water to the second water passage upstream of the water jacket. The second water passage extends next to the outer wall. The first water passage is spaced apart from the outer wall by the second water passage.

The signal transfer apparatus, comprises a plurality of terminals connected to a plurality of signal sources, and a read circuit unit for converting signals received from the terminals into series signals and outputting the resulting series signals. The read circuit unit comprises first operational amplifiers connected to the terminals, and second operational amplifiers for receiving outputs of the first operational amplifiers. And each of the first operational amplifiers comprises an inverting input terminal connected to each of the terminals, an output terminal with an integral capacitor and switch being connected in parallel between it and the inverting input terminal, and a non-inverting input terminal supplied with a reference voltage.

    • A vinyl alcohol polymer with a side chain being a hydroxyalkyl group having 2 to 20 carbon atoms is disclosed. Conventional water-soluble vinyl alcohol polymers gives, where they have a high interfacial activity, an aqueous solution with much-foaming and hence a problem when used for commercial purposes. On the other hand, the vinyl alcohol polymer of the present invention gives, where it is water-soluble, an aqueous solution with less-foaming in spite of its high interfacial activity, and hence an excellent industrial applicability. The vinyl alcohol polymer of the present invention is useful as thermoplastic resin and dispersion stabilizer. In addition, the vinyl alcohol polymer of the present invention is usable for various purposes, e.g. surfactants for various uses, paper coating agent, quality-improving agent for paper such as paper ingredients and pigment binders, adhesive for wood, paper, aluminum foil and inorganic materials, binder for nonwoven fabric, paint, warp sizing agent, fiber-processingagent, sizing agent for hydrophobic fibers such as polyester fiber, various films and sheets, bottles and fibers.
