    • An anti-skid brake system for a brake cylinder of a vehicle, comprising: a primary fluid passage for connecting a master cylinder to the brake cylinder; a solenoid-operated directional control valve disposed in the primary fluid passage for communication of the brake cylinder selectively with the master cylinder or a brake fluid reservoir; a control device sensing a skidding condition of a wheel at which the brake cylinder is disposed, and controlling the directional control valve according to the sensed skidding condition of the wheel; a restrictor disposed in the primary fluid passage in series connection with the directional control valve; and a shut-off valve disposed in the primary fluid passage in parallel connection with the restrictor and controlled by the control device, the shut-off valve being normally placed in its open position, and brought into its closed position at the time when the control device has started to activate the directional control valve for preventing the wheel from skidding. The directional control valve and the shut-off valve are mounted in the same housing and are operated by a single, common solenoid.

    • A hydraulic pressure control device in a vehicle anti-skid braking system includes a wheel brake actuating cylinder for braking a vehicle wheel, a fluid pressure supply passage connected between a master cylinder and the wheel brake actuating cylinder and having a restriction, and a first directional control valve disposed in the fluid pressure supply passage and having at least pressure-increasing and pressure-decreasing modes, the first directional control valve being normally in the pressure-increasing mode to connect the master cylinder to the fluid pressure supply passage. A second directional control valve is connected between the master cylinder and the wheel brake actuating cylinder, the second directional control valve being normally open to provide a bypass passage across the first directional control valve to connect the master cylinder passage to the wheel brake actuating cylinder. A control unit is responsive to a decelerating condition of the vehicle wheel for actuating the first directional control valve into the pressure-decreasing mode and for actuating the second directional control valve to shut off the bypass passage.

    • A regulator valve for a hydraulic anti-skid apparatus and which includes a housing provided with a first inlet port for connection to a fluid pump and the anti-skid apparatus, a second inlet port for connection to a master cylinder, and an outlet port for connection to a fluid reservoir, a regulator piston reciprocably disposed within the housing to form a first fluid chamber in open communication with the first inlet and outlet ports and a second fluid chamber in open communication with the second inlet port, and a spring loaded annular valve seat member arranged within the first fluid chamber to cooperate with a valve part of the piston so as to control the fluid flow from the first inlet port to the outlet port in response to the difference in pressure between the fluid chambers. A support member is arranged within the first fluid chamber formed therein with an axial bore in which a large diameter portion of the piston is slidably disposed to form a third annular fluid chamber. The support member is further formed with an orifice for effecting the fluid flow between the first and third fluid chambers in response to axial movement of the piston.

    • An annular portion is provided in a friction surface of a disc brake adjacent to the circumference of the friction surface of the disc brake at least on one side thereof. This annular portion of the friction surface of the disc brake is slowly inclined along its circumference. A friction pad adapted to be forced against the friction surface of the brake disc includes a pressure bearing portion which is adapted to be forced against the aforesaid inclined surface of the annular portion, when the friction pad is worn down beyond a wear limit. When this pressure bearing portion is pressed against the annular portion, the inclined surface of a brake disc slides on the pressure bearing portion, so that the pressure bearing portion may cyclically receive reactions from the inclined surface of the annular portion at no sacrifice of a damage thereon, because of the smooth inclined surface of the annular portion of a disc brake. The reactions are transmitted via hydraulic lines adapted to operate the pad units, to a brake pedal in the form of pulsation.
