    • A recording apparatus includes a plurality of ECC units operating selectively and independently. A medium access unit reads data from a recording medium in a read mode, and writes data from a host device to the recording medium in a write mode. The data read out from the recording medium contains a reproduction data and a medium reproduction check symbol added to the reproduction data, and data written contains a recording data and a medium recording check symbol added to the recording data. The reproduction data or the recording data is stored in a buffer. In a read mode, the reproduction data from the medium access unit is transferred to the host device through the buffer and in the write mode, the recording data from the host device is transferred to the medium access unit through the buffer. Each ECC units detects any error of the data stored based on the check symbol added to the data stored in the buffer during the transfer operation, corrects the data stored when the error is detected, and generates a check symbol from the data transferred. The check symbol generated is transferred to a destination of transfer after the data to be transferred.

    • Geographically dispersed data centers each include servers and storage systems and are in communication with each other. An application is installed on a guest operating system on a virtual machine set up on a server at a first data center. The application accesses a logical unit on a storage system at the first data center. When migration of the application is initiated, the process determines whether any of the data centers has server resources and storage resources required to receive migration of the application. A destination data center is selected from candidate data centers meeting requirements for migration of the application. The application and guest operating system are migrated from the first data center to a second virtual machine set up on a second server at the destination data center. If a replica of the LU is not already present at the destination data center, the LU is also replicated.

    • Provided is an environment that storage device configuration management can be efficiently done in a data center having a virtualization device. A SAN manager acquires configuration information from a device constituting a SAN and prepares a correspondence relationship between a host computer and a virtual volume in the SAN, and a corresponding relationship between the host computer and a real volume, depending upon the acquired information. Based on the corresponding relationship, the SAN manager outputs a correspondence relationship of between virtual and real volumes. Meanwhile, by interpreting a failure-notification message received from the devices of the SAN, detected and outputted is an influence upon an access to a real or virtual volume as to the failure. Furthermore, when a plurality of failure notifications are received from the devices connected to the SAN, a plurality of failure notifications are associatively outputted depending upon a correspondence relationship between real and virtual volumes.

    • A storage system provides virtual ports, and is able to transfer the virtual ports among physical ports located on multiple storage control units making up the storage system. The storage system is able to manage logical volumes and/or virtual volumes and virtual ports as a group when considering whether to move logical/virtual volumes and/or virtual ports to another storage control unit in the storage system. When the storage system is instructed to transfer volumes, virtual ports, or a group of volumes and virtual ports among the storage control units, the storage system determines whether an inter-unit network will be required to be used following the transfer. When the storage system determines that the inter-unit network will be required if the transfer takes place, the storage system determines and presents an alternate storage control unit for the transfer to avoid use of the inter-unit network, thereby avoiding degraded performance.
