    • A closed-loop multi-antenna system and method thereof are provided. A transmitter includes a feedback information processor and a first transmit unit. A receiver includes a channel estimator, a feedback information generator and a second transmit unit. The feedback information processor receives feedback information from the receiver, calculates each of a sum rate in a multi-user mode and a sum rate in a single-user mode using the feedback information, and selects one of the single-user mode and the multi-user mode as a transmission mode depending on a comparison result between the sum rate in the multi-user mode and the sum rate in the single-user mode. The channel estimator acquires channel quality information (CQI) for each data stream transmitted individually via each antenna group. The feedback information generator determines the CQI associated information from the CQI acquired individually for each antenna group corresponding to the transmission mode.

    • A receiving apparatus and a receiving method for interference cancellation in a wireless communication system are provided. The receiving apparatus includes a detector for estimating a desired signal and an interference signal by Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO)-detecting received signals; a first decoder for iteratively decoding the interference signal output from the detector; a second decoder for iteratively decoding the desired signal output from the decoder; and an LLR updater for updating an interval LLR value of the second decoder using an interval LLR value of the first decoder. Since the SIC/PIC is applied in the process of the iterative decoding of the decoder, the latency can be eliminated by applying the SIC/PIC after the completion of the decoding.

    • Provided are a mobile communication apparatus including an antenna array and a mobile communication method. The mobile communication apparatus has a base station and a mobile station. The mobile station measures the downlink characteristics, detects physical space information and approximate long-term information, produces short-term informatio, transforms the short-term information and the physical space information into a feedback signal, and transmits the feedback signal to the base station. The base station receives the feedback signal, extracts weighted information, beamforms dedicated physical channel signals, combines pilot channel signals with the result of the beamforming, and transmits the results of the combinations to the mobile station via the antenna array. The physical space information denotes space information about the location of the mobile station with respect to the base station, and the approximate long-term information denotes long-term information. Accordingly, degradation of the performance of communications caused by a great amount of information to be fed back station can be prevented while keeping a beamforming gain.

    • A method and apparatus for multi-cell calibration in a wireless communication system supporting cooperative Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) are provided. Operations of a Base Station (BS) according to the method include transmitting a first message indicating a start of multi-cell sounding calibration to a reference Mobile Station (MS); estimating an uplink channel matrix of the reference MS using pilot symbols received from the reference MS; transmitting pilot symbols for enabling the reference MS to estimate a downlink channel matrix; when receiving downlink channel information of cooperative BSs from the reference MS, transmitting second messages comprising the downlink channel information to the cooperative BSs; and determining a multi-cell calibration matrix using the uplink channel matrix and the downlink channel information received from the reference MS.
