    • Ziegler polymerization of .alpha.-olefins is disclosed which is characterized by a solid catalyst component and an organoaluminum component used in the Ziegler catalyst, and also by the temperature used which is 150.degree. to 300.degree. C. The solid catalyst component, Component (A), comprises Sub-component (i) which is a solid catalyst component for Ziegler catalysts comprising Ti, Mg and a halogen; Subcomponent (ii) which is a silicon compound represented by a formula:R.sup.1.sub.m X.sub.n Si(OR.sup.2).sub.4-n-mwherein R.sup.1 indicates a hydrocarbyl group, R.sup.2 which may be the same as or different from R.sup.1 indicates a hydrocarbyl group, X is a halogen atom, and m and n are each a number satisfying equations 0.ltoreq.m.ltoreq.3, 0.ltoreq.n.ltoreq.3 and 0.ltoreq.m+n.ltoreq.3; and Sub-component (iii) which is an organometal compound of a metal of Groups I to IV of the Periodic Table. The organoaluminum component (B) is an organoaluminum compound which is a mixture of the following Sub-component (B.sub.1) and Sub-component (B.sub.2):Sub-component (B.sub.1) which is an organoaluminum compound represented by a formulaR.sup.3.sub.3-a H.sub.a Alwherein R.sup.3 indicates a hydrocarbyl group of 6 to 20 carbon atoms and a is a number satisfying an equation 0.ltoreq.a.ltoreq.1;Sub-component (B.sub.2) which is an organoaluminum compound represented by a formulaR.sup.4.sub.3-b AlY.sub.bwherein R.sup.4 indicates a hydrocarbyl group of 1 to 20 carbon atoms, Y indicates a halogen atom, and b is a number satisfying an equation 0

    • Ziegler polymerization of C.sub.3 or higher .alpha.-olefins is disclosed which is characterized by a solid catalyst component and an organoaluminum component used in the Ziegler catalyst, and also by the temperature used which is 150.degree. to 300.degree. The poly .alpha.-olefins produced have a broader molecular weight distribution than those produced at a lower polymerization temperature.

    • An olefin polymerization catalyst which is obtained by contacting the following components (A) and (B): component (A): a product of contacting the following components (A.sub.1) and (A.sub.2):component (A.sub.1): polyolefin powder having specific values of pore diameter, pore volume, average pore diameter and average particle diameter,component (A.sub.2): a solid component for a Ziegler catalyst comprising titanium, magnesium and a halogen as the essential components;component (B): an organoaluminum compound.The supporting state of the catalyst is improved, and a contaminant-free polymer having a satisfactorily large particle diameter without the lowering of the activity or the stereoregularity of the catalyst is successfully obtained.

    • Disclosed is a catalyst component for polymerization of an olefin, which consists essentially of a contact reaction product of (A) a solid composition obtained by mixing and contacting a precipitating agent with a contact reaction product between a magnesium dihalide and a titanium tetraalkoxide and/or a polymer thereof, the addition of the precipitating agent being carried out with stirring at a stirring intensity lower than a level (2nf) two times the floatation limit stirring intensity (nf) of the reaction system, with (B) a liquid titanium compound and/or a halogen compound of silicon.This catalyst component has a high activity and provides a polymer in which the particle size is relatively large and the particle size distribution is sharply controlled.
