    • A spine or spinal rod has a cross-section defining angled sides that cooperate with a spinal rod opening of a spinal rod holder. In one form, the spine rod has an essentially pentagonal cross-section that thus essentially defines angled sides or side surfaces that interact with the spinal rod holder opening to positively seat the spine rod into the spinal rod holder and prevent spine rod from rotation. In the pentagonal cross-section form, the spine rod has a top or posterior side/side surface, a bottom or anterior side/side surface, a first lateral side/side surface, a second lateral side/side surface, a first angled sub-lateral side/side surface and a second angled sub-lateral side/side surface. The first and second angled sub-lateral sides/side surfaces provide contact with angled sides of the spine rod holder opening. In another form, the spine rod has an essentially V-shaped cross-section that defines sides/side surfaces that interact with the spinal rod holder opening. Preferably, but not necessarily, the spine rod is formed of PEEK. Other bio-compatible materials, however, may be used.

    • A multi-axial spinal cross-connector is configured for connection between spinal fixation devices such as spinal fixation rods. The cross-connector has first and second connection members that are joinable at a fixable pivot junction. The pivot junction allows the connection members to assume various positions relative to one another. A clamp is provided on each end of the first and second connection members whose open and closed states are controlled by fixation of a pivot structure which also fixates the positions of the first and second connection members relative to each other. The cross-connector provides single and/or multi-step locking of both end clamps at the pivot joint. The cross-connector also provides easy in situ sizing, positioning and adjustability.

    • Spine fixation constructs are configured to receive and retain a spinal rod onto a vertebral bone screw. The spine fixation constructs provide for 360° rotation about a bone screw and variable axial placement about the bone screw. In one form, a rod holder of the spine fixation construct is configured to be axially received onto the bone screw. Axial positioning of the rod holder on the bone screw is fixed through cooperation of the rod holder with a fixation component. The fixation component is axially received onto the bone screw. Retention of the spinal rod by the spinal rod holder is also provided via the fixation member. In one form, spinal rod retention is provided upon axial retention of the spinal rod holder onto the bone screw through cooperating action between the fixation mechanism and the spinal rod holder. According to an embodiment, a member of the rod holder is caused to pivot and capture the spinal rod upon receipt of the fixation member onto the bone screw and rod holder. According to another embodiment, pivoting motion of a pawl of the rod holder by the fixation member not only locks the spinal rod but skews the pawl relative to the bone screw to wedge the axial placement of the pawl and thus the rod holder relative to the bone screw.

    • Lumbar and cervical interbody or intervertebral devices for implantation between adjacent vertebrae of a spine and/or within intermediary canals of long bones are characterized by a body defining a superior end and an inferior end whose surfaces have serrations or teeth thereon forming anti-backout structures that allow implantation of the body but inhibit removal or backing out therefrom. The one-way structures may extend from the anterior end to the posterior end. The one-way structures may take different shapes but are always configured to allow insertion of the interbody device in an anterior-first manner while preventing and/or inhibiting the interbody device from backing out posteriorly. The various interbody devices may be further characterized by a body defining a cavity that is in communication with the superior and inferior ends of the body and at least one lateral side thereof via openings in the body. Undercuts are formed in the body about the adjacent the openings in order to support bony ingrowth within the void.

    • A spinal cross-connector is configured for adjustable connection between spinal fixation devices such as spinal fixation rods and allows for adjustment in length or distance between adjacent spinal rod clamping members and provides independent rotational adjustment of the two spinal rod clamping members for individual and independent attachment thereof to adjacent spinal rods of a spinal rod assembly. The cross-connector has first and second connection members that are adjustable in length and rotation relative to one another. A first spinal rod clamping member is provided on an end of the first connection member and defines first and second arced jaws that are adapted to clamp onto a first spinal rod. A second spinal rod clamping member is provided on an end of the second connection member and defines first and second arced jaws that are adapted to clamp onto a second spinal rod. Both the first and second clamping members are rotatable relative to the connection arms and thus provide the rotational adjustment. The individual and independent rotational adjustment of the spinal rod clamping members allows the present cross-connector to adjust to variations in skew between adjacent spinal rods as well as provide the ability to attach to the adjacent spinal rods at various angles between the adjacent spinal rods.
