摘要： Systems and methods for enhanced runtime hosting are described. In one respect, the runtime identifies any abstraction interface(s) exposed by a host application. The abstraction interface(s) correspond to respective execution environment functionality implemented by the hosting application. During execution of runtime managed code and responsive to an action or event associated with an identified one of the respective execution environment abstractions, the runtime calls a specific interface or object corresponding to a specific one of the abstraction interface(s). This allows the host application to customize/enhance its execution environment, which includes the runtime, as a function of the implemented abstraction(s).

A determination is made as to whether a source language association rule related to a declaration is different from a default association rule for a target runtime. If so, an override association is expressed between the declaration and the implementation, and if not, a default association is expressed. Methods and systems are also provided for interpreting an association between a declaration and an implementation in a runtime system, wherein a determination is made as to whether the association comprises an override association. If so, the association is interpreted according to an override association rule for the runtime system, and if not, the association is interpreted according to a default association rule.

摘要： A system of the present invention includes a relational database management system (RDBMS). Methods are described for maintaining integrity between "design documents," which may be creating under different operating systems, and one or more information tables of the system. The system provides each field of a table with a unique ID ("field ID") for tracking the field regardless of restructuring changes which may be made to the table by various clients. Corresponding field IDs are stored with the fields of design documents, thereby permitting the system to maintain a link between a design document and its table. Upon a restructure of a table, the dependent design documents may be appropriately updated by their respective clients. Methods are also described for improved storage of free-form or "memo" data. In a preferred embodiment, memo data are stored in a separate file comprised of variable-length storage blocks. Methods are described for allocating storage space in the blocks and sub-allocating storage space within a block. For increased efficiency, the system maintains a sorted "free list" of free storage blocks.
