    • A back construction includes a back shell mounted on a back frame at top and bottom connections, and a flexible lumbar section biased forwardly by a biasing device. The bottom connection is located rearward of the back shell to allow unencumbered sliding entry into the seating unit from a lateral side position, but the bottom connection defines a virtual pivot forward of its physical location to provide the desired path of flexure when the lumbar section is flexed. In one form, the bottom connection is a pair of non-parallel links of dissimilar length. In another form, the bottom connection is a follower with two bearings following a guide slot. In some variations, the force of the biasing device is variable. Seating units incorporating the back construction include a vehicle seat, a foldable portable stadium seat, and a wheelchair seat.

    • A method for opening a door on a storage bin is provided, where the storage bin includes a door pivoted to the storage bin for movement between open and closed positions, and a biasing device operably connected to the storage bin and the door for biasing the door as the door nears the open and closed positions. The biasing device includes a spring and a T-shaped shifting anchor connected to the spring that translates and changes a torque arm of a linear spring as the door is moved so that the spring creates a force sufficient to close the door during a last portion of door closure movement and so that the spring creates a force sufficient to open the door during a last portion of door opening movement.

    • A chair base connection assembly for connecting a pipestand to a chair base includes an outer sleeve having opposing flared ends, an inner sleeve having a tapered inner diameter for engaging the pipestand and an outer surface having a taper at an upper end for engaging an inner flared surface at the upper end of the outer sleeve and external threads at the lower end for engaging a tapered intermediate nut having an outer flared surface which engages an inner flared surface on the lower end of the outer sleeve. The chair base connection assembly of this invention provides a stable, strong, wobble-free connection between the base and the pipestand, while allowing greater dimensional variability of the components comprising the chair base connection assembly, thereby reducing the manufacturing costs.
