The portable detector automatically sets one or more operational states based on at least a determination as to whether the portable detector is connected to external power. An imaging system is also disclosed that ascertains whether the portable detector is connected via a tether. The imaging system may perform a compatibility check when connected to the portable detector to assess compatibility between the imaging system and the portable detector.

The digital X-ray detector also includes a scan line coupled to each pixel in a first dimension, a data line coupled to each pixel in a second dimension, enable circuitry coupled to the transistor of each pixel for enabling readout of the photodiode, and readout circuitry coupled to the photodiode through the transistor of each pixel for reading out data from the photodiode. The digital X-ray detector is configured to autonomously determine a start of an X-ray exposure while the enable circuitry maintains each transistor in an off state.

For example, in one embodiment, the link quality of a connection is monitored by the host or the client. If the connection has a link quality below a predetermined threshold but remains intact, a channel switch request is sent, synchronization packages are exchanged between the host and client on the current channel, the channel of the system is changed to a new channel, and the system resumes communications on the new channel.

The method also includes determining the current status of each detected X-ray detector and displaying on a user-viewable screen a visual indication of the status of each detected X-ray detector.
