    • A device for positional and/or length determination comprising a carrier unit with an absolute magnetic length coding and a measuring unit that co-operates with the carrier measuring unit and can be displaced in relation to the latter. The measuring unit has a magnetic sensor unit (Sci, Sfi) and can be connected to an electronic evaluation unit (18 to 32) that is located downstream of the measuring unit. The elongated, rod-shaped carrier unit (10) is provided with one track of preferably radially magnetized length coding, a plurality of coding sections comprising periodic pole divisions is provided along the length coding and coding sections of a first polarity alternate with coding sections of a second polarity along the carrier unit, in such a way that a maximum of two coding sections of the same polarity lie directly adjacent to one another.

    • An application apparatus for facilitating the application of a substance on an application location by a substance transfer element includes a base body, a first receptacle supported on the base body for retaining therein a fluid which can react with another material composition to form the substance to be applied, and a second receptacle supported on the base body. The second receptacle receives and retains therein the substance transfer element during stockage of the application apparatus. During a substance applying use, the substance transfer element is removed from the second receptacle with the material composition releasably retained on the substance transfer element, inserted into the first receptacle for reactive contact of the material composition with the fluid into the first receptacle to form the substance to be applied, removed from the first receptacle, and put in contact with the application location such that the substance is transferred to the application location.

    • A method of loading commands (C1, C2, . . . ) in a security module (2) of a terminal (1) is disclosed. The method comprises the steps of: a station (4) transferring the commands (C1-Cn) to the terminal (1), the terminal (1) transferring the commands (C1-Cn) to the security module (2), the security module (2) executing the commands (C1-Cn), the terminal (1) selectively recording actual results (R1'-Rm') of the executed commands (C1-Cn), and the transfer means (3) transferring the results (R1'-Rm') back to the station (4). The commands may have associated expected results (e.g. R1), which the terminal (1) may compare with the actual results (e.g. R1' ). This allows both a flexible loading of data in the security module (2) by means of commands and a remote check of the functioning of the security module.
