摘要： Embodiments of the present invention include a device and a method for providing a haptic motion feedback to user interacting with a simulated three-dimensional (“3D”) environment. In one embodiment, the device includes a base and a belt assembly, coupled to the base. The belt assembly includes a housing having an opening and a belt adapted to rotate within the housing for conveying a motion of an object moving in the simulated 3D environment. To indicate a horizontal component of object's motion, in one embodiment, the base is rotated, thus causing the belt assembly to rotate around its central axis. To indicate a vertical component of the object's motion, in one embodiment, the belt assembly is tilted. Optionally, the belt may include a plurality of protrusions and/or indentations on its surface for indicating to the user distances covered by the object within the simulated 3D environment.

An annotation cache may be used to store the global annotations that have been created for a particular data source, improving the efficiency of the global annotation system.

摘要： A system and method is provided to map alternative short captions that are displayed in a constrained display environment instead of displaying standard captions. When designing a display panel, the designer identifies shorter captions to use in a constrained environment. Shorter captions are helpful in preventing text from wrapping or having to horizontally scroll to in order to read a longer caption. Varying levels of short captions are provided so that a standard size display displays the full caption, a somewhat smaller size display displays smaller captions, while an even smaller display displays even smaller captions. National language support is also provide to translate both full captions as well as the short version(s) of the captions.

摘要： A source roller containing transparent film is mounted below a kiosk's touch screen within the kiosk's enclosure. A portion of the transparent film is manually unwound and connected to a take-up roller mounted above the kiosk's display. The source and take-up rollers are mounted in a way that ensures that the film comes into contact with the touch screen. When a kiosk user enters information via the touch screen, the soil and other residue from the user's hands comes into contact with the film instead of the touch screen itself. Timers, optical sensors, and motors are used to advance the transparent film whenever it becomes dirty.

摘要： Three separate methods are used to provide the user with sounds that help the user understand where a particular current position is relative to a "location of interest" (LOI) within the viewable object. First, the user is able to use sound marks to mark specific LOIs within viewable objects so that the user may return to those LOIs at a later time. Second, the user is provided with view regions which aurally indicate the LOS of frequeuntly used portions of the viewable object. Lastly, the user is given an aural indication of the current position of the position identifier relative to the viewable object as a whole. This is called relational positioning. Each type of aural LOI indication can be presented to the user regardless of how the user is moving through the viewable object.
