摘要： An implantable drug delivery accessory is described. A middle ear guide member has a hollow interior enclosed by a non-permeable outer surface. A proximal end of the middle ear guide member is fixed to the tympanic membrane of an implanted patient. A distal end of the middle ear guide member penetrates through a fluid-tight sealed opening into the inner ear. An inner ear holding member has a proximal end connected to the distal end of the middle ear guide member at the sealed opening and a closed distal end terminating the inner ear holding member some predetermined distance within the cochlea. A hollow interior of the inner ear holding member contains a replaceable drug delivery member which stores a therapeutic drug. A semi-permeable outer surface of the inner ear holding member is connected to a cochlear implant electrode and adapted to release therapeutic drug from the hollow interior into adjacent tissue. The drug delivery member is removable and replaceable via the ear canal of the implanted patient through the proximal end of the middle ear.

摘要： A method of sensing vibrations in the middle ear is presented. The method includes implanting a transducer in the middle ear. The transducer measures vibration, within a predetermined frequency range, of at least one component of the middle ear. The transducer has a resonance frequency within the predetermined frequency range, and further has a limited frequency response in a portion of the frequency range. The implanting includes operatively coupling the implant to the at least one component of the middle ear such that the limited frequency response of the transducer is complimentary to, and compensated by, the frequency characteristics of the at least one component of the middle ear.

A sensing gate, coupled to the sensor and responsive to the sensing signal, has a sensing gate threshold value such that the sensing signal is coupled from the sensing gate to an implanted signal processor when the sensing signal has a magnitude greater than the sensing gate threshold value, and the sensing signal is blocked when the sensing signal has a magnitude less than the sensing gate threshold value.

An external processor housing has a generally planar skin contacting surface and a central axis perpendicular to the skin contacting surface. A signal processor is located within the processor housing for developing an implant data signal. Left and right side filter bank pre-processors preprocess left and right microphone signals to generate band pass signals for each side. A bilateral signal processing arrangement processes the band pass signals in a time sequence of stimulation frames. The signal processing module includes a bilateral channel selection module synchronously selects for each stimulation frame a set of stimulation channels for each side based on spectral content of the band pass signals. 摘要： Embodiments of the present invention are directed to an implantable hearing implant, such as cochlear implants. The implantable hearing implant includes an implant device containing signal processing circuitry configured to receive an implant communications signal transmitted from an external transmitting coil. The implantable hearing implant further includes an implant magnet configured to cooperate with a corresponding external holding magnet in an external device located over the overlying skin to magnetically hold the external device against the overlying skin. The implant magnet has a north magnetic pole, a south magnetic pole, and as a whole has an overall magnetic dipole moment that is parallel to or at an angle of 300 or less with respect to the outermost surface. The implant magnet has a north end portion and a south end portion, each having an individual magnetic dipole moment that is inclined with respect to the overall magnetic dipole moment.
