摘要： An improved color picture tube includes a screen and an inline gun for generating and directing three inline electron beams along separate paths toward the screen. The electron gun includes electrodes that provide a beam-forming region, a prefocus region and a main focus region. The beam-forming region of the gun includes a cathode, a G1 electrode, a G2 electrode and a first portion of a G3 electrode. The prefocus region includes a second portion of the G3 electrode, a G4 electrode and a first portion of a G5 electrode. The main focus region includes a second portion of the G5 electrode and a G6 electrode. The improvement resides in the beam-forming region, the prefocus region and the main focus region each being astigmatic.

摘要： A multi-beam electron gun for a color cathode ray tube (CRT) includes a plurality of vertically spaced, horizontal inline beams, where each inline array of beams provides the three primary colors of red, green and blue and adjacent inline beam arrays simultaneously trace adjacent horizontal scan lines on the color CRT's display screen. The beams in each horizontal inline array of beams are focused on a common spot on the display screen, with the three beams deflected across the screen in unison. Each inline array of beams is modulated in accordance with that portion of the video image which they form allowing adjacent, vertically spaced inline arrays to write different video image information on the screen in simultaneously forming adjacent portions of the color video image. Simultaneously providing color video image information on more than one horizontal scan line allows for a reduction in horizontal scan frequency and associated magnetic deflection yoke operating criteria, and also increases beam dwell time on the screen's phosphor elements allowing for a reduction in individual beam current without sacrificing video image brightness while improving video image resolution. Individual beams are modulated by providing video drive signals to either segmented conductive portions in the G1 control grid in one embodiment, where each conductive portion includes a beam passing aperture, or in another embodiment to each cathode which is aligned with and directs emitted electrons through an associated aperture in the G1 control grid.

摘要： Video signals for each primary color are delayed in time relative to every other primary color video signals. When displayed on a cathode ray tube ("CRT") display, the time delayed video signals will result in a separated color pattern for each image displayed. Separated color images are subsequently realigned through use of electron beam deflection controls affecting the horizontal and vertical displacement of electron beams for each color. Measurement of EMI at a far field point varies between zero (no EMI) and no reduction in measurable EMI, depending on the frequency of the video signals and the amount of time delay induced therein. In alternative embodiments, time shifting of video signals may be accomplished either by discrete filter components, simple propagation delay lines.

摘要： An improved color display system includes a cathode-ray tube and a magnetic deflection yoke positioned on the tube. The tube includes an envelope having an inline electron gun for generating and directing three inline beams along initially coplanar paths toward a screen on an interior surface portion of the envelope. The gun includes a plurality of spaced electrodes which comprise three lenses. The first lens includes a beam-forming region for providing substantially symmetrical beams to a second lens. The second lens includes a first modulation electrode for providing asymmetrically-shaped beams to a third, or main, lens. At least one and preferably two dynamic voltage signals are applied to the modulation electrode of the second lens. Another dynamic voltage signal is applied to a second modulation electrode of the third lens. The voltage signals are related to the deflection of the beams and improve the electron beam spot size at the periphery of the tube screen.

摘要： A disclosed last-line overscan system and method allow for sampling of video display characteristics such as RGB cathode currents during each frame of displayed video for an underscanned video monitor without distortion of the visual display. Detection of the initiation of the vertical sync signal operates to overscan the last display line by driving the trace off the visual display area and away from the active raster. Sampling may then occur during an interval in which no visual display is possible thereby preventing distortion of visual information and preventing undesired brightness in the active raster. Subsequent to the interval for sampling of the RGB beam currents, vertical retrace is effectuated for display of the succeeding video frame. The video trace of the raster is bumped from the video display area and beyond the normal viewing area or escutcheon of the CRT screen during last-line overscan by providing a current surge for a preselected interval sufficient to allow for desired diagnostic sampling and testing, such as cathode current sampling.

The video processing unit of the receiver is automatically adjusted in response to any one of the cathode currents exceeding a predetermined level for reducing the video drive signals to limit the excessive cathode current to the predetermined level. As a result, the individual cathode currents are limited to the predetermined level while the combined cathode currents are allowed to substantially exceed this level.
