    • An electrical connector for making connection to a conductor cable, including a connector block which has an anvil surface against which the conductor cable is positionable. A resilient electrical contact member is fixed to the connector block and has an abutment portion for engaging the conductor cable opposite the anvil surface. The electrical contact terminates in a free end extending angularly at an acute angle away from the abutment portion and the anvil surface. A cover member has an inner contact engaging surface and is affixed to the connector block in a direction of movement transverse to the anvil surface. The inner surface of the cover member engages the free end of the contact member to drive the abutment portion of the contact member into engagement with the conductor cable. The abutment portion is caused to wipe the conductor cable due to the angular orientation of the free end of the contact member. The conductor cable is inserted into the connector with zero insertion force, and the cover member and connector block provide strain relief on the cable.

    • The present invention provides a parallel board connector having zero insertion force between a PC board and a backplane which presents effectively zero impedance change through the connector interface. The PC board and the backplane to which it is to be connected have through-plated holes. The boards are positioned to overlap such that the through-plated holes are axially aligned. A shuttle block is provided with a number of parallel dual flex pins attached to one surface. To effect connection, the flex pins of the shuttle block are inserted through the holes of one board and into the holes of a second board to provide an electrical connection having very low or no impedance interface.

Substantially U-shaped pin connectors are mounted in the top face of the base member and include a contact pin extending through the base member. The top plate member is aligned substantially parallel with and spaced from the base member and adapted to move toward and away from the base member.     • An electrical conductor contact having opposed cantilever fingers configured to mate with a mating contact at a low mating force is provided. Each finger has a contact portion at its free end. The contact portions are offset axially from each other in the longitudinal direction of insertion of a mating contact thereby permitting the surface of the contact portion of the upper finger to be located below the surface of the contact portion of the lower finger. The contact portions are also preferably offset axially from each other along the other spatial axes. The contact configuration reduces the maximum mating force and permits plating of the contacts with a minimum amount of precious metals. The invention further provides a receptacle connector for low force mating with a pin header in printed circuit board applications which is comprised of a plurality of electrical contacts so configured, and a specially configured housing for housing and preloading the plurality of electrical conductor contacts.

    • An electrical connector for receiving the edge of a printed circuit board or flexible circuit device or the like, has a resiliently displacable wall portion which supports a plurality of electrical contacts. A projection extending outwardly from the wall in the direction of the contacts, engages a printed circuit board as it is inserted into the housing and displaces the wall portion so that the contacts do not engage the surface of the board during insertion. When the board or similar device has been fully inserted, the projections are permitted to enter corresponding recesses on the board so that the wall portion returns to its normal nondisplaced position and the contacts engage cooperating contact surfaces on the board.

    • Multi-contact connector for a flat conductor cable comprises a housing having a cable receiving face and a trough-like cable receiving opening extending into the cable receiving face. A plurality of contact terminals are mounted in the opening in side-by-side relationship. Each terminal has a spring contact portion which engages one of the conductors of the cable when the cable is inserted. The contact portions are arranged in three rows, the first row comprising the contact portion of every third terminal and which is adjacent to the cable receiving face. The second row and the third row are also formed from every third terminal and the contact portions in these rows are located at increasing distances from the cable receiving face. When the cable is inserted, its leading edge encounters the contact portions of the terminals in the first row and upon further movement into the opening, encounters the contact portions of the terminals in the second and third rows. This arrangement facilitates insertion of the flexible cable into the opening and reduces the tendency of the cable to buckle.

    • The present disclosure describes a low insertion force connector for use with integrated circuit (IC) packages of the LSI/VLSI type. The connector is characterized by simplicity of design and economy of manufacture. The well known friction-type contact comprised of members which enclose and bear against the pin surface is replaced by a pin-receiving cup loosely fitted in a cavity in the connector body and supported by one extremity of a light spring member. The opposite extremity of the latter may include an integral tail section or a separate solder or wire wrap tail may be affixed thereto. The force required to seat the IC package in the connector is a function of the spring compressive forces and may be made quite low. Removal force for the package is virtually zero. Additionally, a ramp section in the connector is adapted to receive a wedge-like member which bears against the outer surface of the IC package and causes the gradual collapse of the contact springs as the package is seated.
