    • A switch is provided comprising an insulating case supporting two conducting terminals, and a removable conducting rod coming to bear against the terminals so as to establish electric contact. The rod is held in abutment against a portion of a case and against the terminals by a retaining disk urged by a spring and operable by means of a resetting lever. Auxiliary electric conductors, formed from spring wires, comprise a helical part held in place by the screw shaped terminals and a rectilinear part bearing resiliently against the rod. The auxiliary electric conductors remain in contact with the rod during its reversible resilient travel so as to maintain the electric contact until definite release of the rod. Definite release occurs when the rod exceeds its reversible resilient travel and escapes the case and the retaining disk. The switch is effective to break an electrical circuit in the presence of frost and vibration such as to provide safety on cable transporting pylons.

    • A key-actuated locking device is used with a key having a plurality of spaced-apart teeth which define a pattern. The locking device includes a key passageway into which the key is inserted with predetermined orientation. A plurality of elastomeric conductors are positioned proximate the passageway and are selectively compressed by the teeth of the key when the key is inserted into the key passageway. A plurality of pairs of separated conductors are also supported by a base (such as a printed circuit board). Each conductor pair is positioned to be engaged and conductively connected by one of the elastomeric conductors when that elastomeric conductor is connected by a tooth of the key. A circuit is connected to the separated conductor pairs which permits operation of a lock mechanism when all of the proper elastomeric conductors (corresponding to the required pattern of teeth on the key) are compressed and all other elastomeric conductors are not compressed.

    • An encoding switch generates selected patterns of voltage signals that correspond to the binary bits of a code word. A base of the switch supports a plurality of pairs of terminals. Each pair of terminals includes a conducting stationary terminal and a conducting moveable terminal that is positioned adjacent to the stationary terminal. An encoding module is inserted over the base to define a particular pattern of voltage signals. The module has a plurality of selectively detachable tabs that engage the movable terminals and press the terminals against adjacent stationary terminals when the module is slidingly engaged with the body. Relatively long tabs of the module establish connections corresponding to the data bits of a word and at least one short tab establishes a power connection for the switch. As the module is inserted over the base, the longer tabs initially establish the connections that define the data bits and the shorter tab thereafter causes power to be applied to the switch so that a corresponding pattern of electrical signals is generated.

    • A motor vehicle power switch is provided and, in the form illustrated, is for use in conjunction with an automotive antitheft device. The antitheft device has apparatus for engaging a latch in a notch in the steering column to prevent turning of the steering column when the device is operative. A key operates the apparatus which moves a slider with respect to a stator. The slider has a plurality of conductive rollers which are urged toward the stator and at appropriate locations sequentially connects a main contact with secondary fixed contacts. The fixed contacts may be connected to the coil, the service mechanism, the fuel pump, to the starter. Specially designed sections are provided on the stator to facilitate rapid and positive closure of the electrical contacts.

Depending upon the cam disposition, the switch will function as either a momentary or latching switch. Depending on the block position, the switch will function as a finger operated or trip wire operating switch.

    • A device for setting the switches of a circuitboard-carried dual in-line package [DIP] which includes an array of miniature closely lined switch actuators such as toggle elements adapted to be rocked around a common axis to open and close their associated switches, which device has a recess with an outline configuration conforming to that of the package to receive the upper portion of the package to bring the lower ends of a plurality of operating arms pivotable around a common axis and having an interarm spacing corresponding to the toggle elements spacing into cooperative relationship with the toggle elements. The arms have offset handles with progressively increasing offsets from the center handles outwardly and extend through slots in the cover of the device so that the interhandle spacing is appreciably greater than is the spacing between adjacent switch toggle elements. Each handle is movable between two positions at which its arm holds the corresponding toggle element at positions at which its switch is open or is closed. Springs resiliently retain the handles in the positions to which they have been moved. Preferably the cover of the device is provided with legends adjacent the handles indicating prices to which they correspond and the device is provided with another legend indicating the correct orientation of the device with reference to the switch package.
