    • There is provided a simply structured, cleanerless image forming apparatus capable of suppressing occurrence of filming without significant remodeling.An image forming apparatus 100 according to the present invention comprises a plurality of image forming units 100a, 100b, 100c, and 100d for forming toner images of corresponding colors on photoconductor drums 3a, 3b, 3c, and 3d according to a cleanerless system. These image forming units respectively have adhered toner film cleaners 1a, 1b, 1c, and 1d each of which touches a surface of the photoconductor and mechanically cleans the surface at every cleaning timing for cleaning the surface of the photoconductor. The adhered toner film cleaner does nothing during image formation, but cleans the photoconductor surface only at cleaning timing when the image formation is complete for the specified number of sheets. Accordingly, it is possible to decrease filming without affecting the photoconductor's life.

    • When a sensor detects a leading end of a recording sheet, a movable distributing mechanism distributes the recording sheet to a first distributing position. When a sensor 50a detects the leading end of the recording sheet, the mechanism switches conveyer rollers and to the releasing position and returns them to the center position. Next, responding to that a sensor detects a trailing end of the recording sheet, the conveyer rollers and are reset to the nipping position and accept a second recording sheet. When the sensor detects a leading end of the recording sheet, the movable distributing mechanism distributes the second recording sheet to a second distributing position, opposite to the first distributing position. Rearward recording sheets are distributed alternately to the first and second positions.

    • An apparatus having image forming units to form respective toner images of different colors on a toner-image receiving medium, each unit including an image carrier, a static-latent-image forming portion to form a static latent image on the image carrier, a developing portion to apply a toner of the corresponding color to the image carrier, for forming the toner image on the image carrier, and a toner transferring portion to transfer the toner image from the image carrier to the medium, wherein the image forming units are disposed so as to be opposed to the medium and operable to sequentially transfer the toner images from the image carriers to the medium, and the developing portion of each unit is operable to adsorb the toner remaining on the image carrier after the toner image is transferred to the medium, and wherein at least the image forming unit located at the most upstream position of the apparatus is provided with a dust removing portion to remove, from the image carrier, a dust which has been transferred to the image carrier during a transfer of the toner image from the image carrier to the medium.

    • An imaging system carries an image defined by a dry powder or liquid toner. The imaging system includes a first transfer roll that electrostatically or adhesively accumulates the color image from a photoconductor, and a second transfer roll in transfixing contact with the first transfer roll. The second transfer roll possessing a central radiant heat source and a radiant heat source located adjacent to the first transfer roll in radiant proximity to an entering media sheet and the transfixing contact between the first and second transfer rolls. The first transfer roll includes at least a first basecoat layer and a topcoat layer. The basecoat layer includes a material that is electrically conductive and exhibits elastomeric and macrocompliant properties enabling the media to wrap through a significant arc under the transfixing contact and heat of the second transfer roll. The topcoat layer includes a specially formulated Fluorosilicone topcoat material that has a low surface energy and exhibits a microcompliance and resiliency enabling the first layer to compliantly mate with the photoconductor surface. The second transfer roll includes an outer, liquid carrier phobic layer and an inner compliant layer for enabling direct transfer of an image from the first transfer roll to a media sheet. The second transfer roll is optionally electrically biased with a polarity to prevent premature transfer of the image on the first transfer roll.

    • An image forming apparatus includes a charging roller for charging a surface of a photoconductive layer in a photoreceptor so as to have a prescribed polarity, a first exposing unit which is arranged on a downstream side of the charging roller on the basis of a direction in which the photoreceptor moves, a developer unit which is placed on a downstream side of the first exposing unit and which keeps toner, to which a charge with a polarity opposite to the prescribed polarity is applied, in contact with a photoconductive layer, and a second exposing unit for directing light generated according to an image signal to a back of the photoconductive layer at a contact position of the toner and the photoconductive layer. The first exposing unit directing light reflected from a document to which a light is applied to the surface of photoconductive layer so as to form a first electrostatic latent image. The second exposing unit forms a second electrostatic latent image by interlocking or synchronizing with the developing operation of the developer unit. This makes it possible to easily form a synthetic image at a high speed by superimposing characters printed by a printer function onto a copy image formed by a copying function, for example.

    • The image forming apparatus does not have a separate cleaning unit. The image forming apparatus includes a photosensitive drum, an exposing unit for forming an electrostatic latent image on the photosensitive drum, a transfer unit for transferring toner onto a recording sheet to perform a transfer process, a paper feed mechanism for transferring the recording sheet through the transfer unit, a charging unit for charging the photosensitive drum to a predetermined voltage, a memory removing member for scattering toner remaining on the photosensitive drum upon a completion of the transfer process, a developing unit for feeding the toner over the electrostatic latent image and for recovering the toner from the photosensitive drum, and a controller for producing upon the completion of the image forming process a voltage difference between the photosensitive drum and the memory removing member so as to generate an electrostatic attracting force which causes the toner remaining on the memory removing member to be collected on the photosensitive drum. The collected toner is recovered by the developing unit later.
