摘要： A system for the abatement of industrial process emissions comprises a horizontal regenerative catalytic oxidizer (RCO). The system utilizes at least two regenerative chambers and at least two catalytic chambers in a controlled abatement process. Pollutants injected into the RCO from the process emissions are catalytically oxidized. The horizontal configuration of the RCO reduces the size of the RCO per cubic foot of emissions treated, and also simplifies maintenance requirements in removing and replacing, or regenerating, the catalyst. Chutes and valves situated above and below the catalyst provide maintenance means without the associated contamination concerns typically caused by catalytic migration throughout vertically configured RCOs.

A permanent circulation of gaseous effluents is established on one hand between an effluent delivery pipe and a central zone via a first limited angular sector of the ring and on the other hand between the central zone and an effluent discharge pipe 6 via a second limited angular sector of the ring. The ring is charged with a mass of large heat exchange surface material and the device can be used for recovering positive or negative thermal energy. A thermal reactor of the catalytic bed type, for example, can be placed in the central zone for removing volatile organic compounds (VOC). The device may be used for catalytic or thermal oxidation of the organic compounds in gaseous effluents, for example.

摘要： An apparatus for baking a dough-type product includes an oven having an enclosure, a product supporting conveyor in the enclosure, burners positioned to heat the product, and an integrally associated emissions control device for controlling emissions emanating from the product while baking. A recirculating system for controllably directing air from the oven to and from the emissions control device is integrated into or with the oven, and preferably positioned in the oven enclosure. A heat exchanger is operably connected to the emissions control device and the recirculation system so that a first portion of contaminated air collected by the recirculating system in the enclosure is communicated to the emissions control device for cleaning and then through the heat exchanger for cooling before being vented to atmosphere, while a second portion of the contaminated air collected by the recirculating system is communicated through the heat exchanger to gain added heat while also cooling the air to be vented to atmosphere, and it is then recirculated back to the oven enclosure. The recirculating system is controlled to handle surges in the alcohol level of contaminants emitted from the product and also surges in water vapor content in the contaminated air which comes both from the product and ambient air, the first portion of air after cleaning may be selectively fed back into the oven as desired for additional energy savings in the baking process, and the apparatus can be (but is not necessarily) constructed to use this as the source of all or most of the heat for the baking process in the oven.

摘要： Methods and apparatus are provided for establishing and controlling the stability and movement of a reaction wave of reacting gases in a matrix of solid heat-resistant matter, wherein such reacting gases may be recuperatively pre-heated. At least a portion of the bed is initially preheated above the autoignition temperature of the mixture whereby the mixture reacts upon being introduced into the matrix thereby initiating a self-sustaining reaction region, after which the pre-heating can be terminated. The stability and movement of the wave within the matrix is maintained by monitoring the temperatures along the flowpath of the gases through the bed and adjusting the flow of the gases and/or vapors or air to maintain and stabilize the wave in the bed. The method and apparatus provide for the reaction or combustion of gases to minimize NO.sub.x and undesired products of incomplete combustion. A recuperative heat exchange system is used to preheat the reactants with heat generated by the reaction by channeling hot exhaust gases through the matrix surrounding reactant inlet tubes.
