    • In a directional seat valve all the valve seat components disposed axially adjacent each other in the housing bore are held between two closure screws and for assembling the valve the movable valve elements are supported via the valve actuating pin on a punch. By turning the closure screws the valve seat components can be adjusted in the axial direction so that the actuating pin has a predetermined spacing with respect to the housing end side of the valve. An advantage resides in that in the assembly of the valve itself a constant dimension can be set between the actuating pin and the housing and consequently an adjustment on subsequent attachment to the actuating means dispensed with, in particular an adjustment of the actuator cooperating with the actuating pin.

    • An improved valve is provided of the type having a spring biased ball for sealing engagement with both a metallic seat and a plastic seat. The valve is of the type including a passageway adapted for receiving a stinger to unseat the ball from both seating surfaces, thereby allowing fluid to pass through the valve body. The diameter of the soft seat approximates the diameter of the ball, and preferably at least a portion of the sealing surface of the soft seat is spaced opposite the metallic seat with respect to a plane parallel to the metallic seat and passing through the center of the fully seated ball. The soft seat may be secured in the valve body by a retainer, which maintains a radial outwardly directed force on the soft seat.

    • A two piece ball valve assembly kit specifically for use with a hollow T or Y pipe joint. The valve includes a valve actuator assembly which can be connected by threads or a flanged connection to the inlet of the joint and which includes a spherical valve element which can be linearly reciprocated by rotating an operating handle. A disjointed seating element having a circular seating surface may be connected to the outlet of the pipe joint by a threaded or a flanged connection in axial alignment with the valve element. The valve element may be reciprocated within the joint against the seating surface to control fluid flow through the joint, with the joint serving as a valve housing. The ball valve also includes sealing members for excluding fluid from the valve housing when the valve is in the fully opened position. The valve assembly includes alternate embodiments usable with T or Y pipe joints.

    • In a surgically implantable shunt system for venting cerebrospinal fluid in the treatment of hydrocephaly, a valve and the method of testing it are disclosed. The valve comprises an elongate hollow valve body into which a flat plate tightly fits, partitioning the valve body into an outlet and an inlet chamber. The flat plate has a circular aperture connecting the chambers and upon which rests a spherical ball of diameter larger than the aperture. A flat spring biases the ball against the circular periphery of the aperture creating a circular seal and providing a precisely defined back pressure, low hysteresis and low susceptiblity to bridging by debris. Testing for leakage is accomplished by illuminating with light of a suitable frequency the aperture with ball seated and detecting any light transmitted therethrough.

    • A wall hydrant is described herein comprising a hollow tube having an inlet end and outlet end. The inlet end is adapted to be connected to a source of fluid under pressure and has a valve means adjacent its inlet end. The valve means comprises a cylindrical body portion having an inward end terminating in an arcuate nose portion. A plurality of spaced apart tab elements extend outwardly from the body portion and bear against the inward surface of the hollow tube. A valve seat portion is provided in the inlet end of the tube. A valve control rod is connected to the valve means and extends through the opposite end of the hollow tube to permit remote control of the valve means and to selectively permit the valve means to slide inwardly to a closed position on said tabs, and outwardly to an open position.
