    • A building element for use as a column or a beam includes a profile of substantially uniform cross-section extending lengthwise between first and second ends. The profile is defined by a web, a pair of side flanges perpendicular to the web, and curved outer corners joining the side flanges, respectively, to the web. The web includes at least one constriction extending in the same direction as the side flanges and having a pair of arms extending angularly inwardly toward one another from curved inner corners of the web to a curved base having an apex. The side flanges extend from the outer corners to tips, respectively, terminating at side edges, respectively. The building element has an overall width between the web and the tips. The at least one constriction has a width between the web and the apex about null the overall width. A plurality of the building elements can be assembled in web-to-web relation and/or tip-to-tip relation to obtain various building element assemblies useable as beam assemblies or column assemblies.

    • An adjustable clamping mechanism includes a slider block annularly disposed about a rod device within a mechanical press. The mechanism utilizes a press or interference fit connection between the components. During operation, high-pressure oil is injected into the location between the slider block and rod, thereby relieving the press fit and making it possible to have relative movement therebetween. An actuator causes selective linear displacement of the slider block along the longitudinal axis of the stationary rod during the release condition. Once the slider block is repositioned, the high-pressure oil is removed, which reactivates the press fit connection and causes the slider block to once again lock up against the rod and prevent movement therebetween.

    • The present invention is directed to multipositional accessory shelf support mechanism for placing items (e.g., hand-held items such as a computer mouse) on a shelfing surface so that such items are readily accessible while a user is operating his or her computer. Specifically, the present invention comprises a first and second bracket means connected to each other by at least one pair of linkage arms. The first bracket means is attached to a work surface, preferably a keyboard support tray. The second bracket means is capable of supporting an accessory shelf. In one alternative embodiment, the first and second bracket means are pivotally connected to each other. This linkage enables the accessory shelf positioned thereon to be vertically maneuvered upwardly or downwardly. The first bracket means may be removably attached to the work surface. This enables the support assembly to be removed from one area of the work surface and then attached to another area. In another alternative embodiment, the accessory shelf is pivotally attached to the second bracket means so that the mouse shelf can be swiveled over the work surface or any other desired position. Also, the present invention may comprise a means for tilting the accessory shelf in a desired position. In another alternative embodiment, the first bracket means is slidably attached to the work surface. This enables the accessory shelf to be slidably moved along the work surface or portion thereof.
