    • A concrete sleeper for track systems incorporating electrical circuitry, in which sleeper electrically conducting cables are embedded, and therefore concealed therein, with an assembly to allow electrical connection between the cables and associated tracks and associated track side circuitry. In order to obtain connection to the track side circuitry a recess is provided in one end of the sleeper and receives a terminal box having contacts for contacting exposed ends of the embedded cables and connections within the terminal box are in turn connected to the track side circuitry. In order to achieve an electrical connection with the tracks the cables are connected, within the sleeper, to embedded parts of shoulders of rail fastening assemblies of the type marketed under the name PANDROL.

    • The device comprises, for anchoring each T-shaped fixing bolt in a concrete element, a passageway opening onto an outer face of the element and extended by a cavity which allows rotation of the head of the bolt through 90.degree.. A longitudinal reinforcement which is parallel to the outer face is located at a short distance from the outer face and near to the inner end of the passageways. The reinforcement has in the region of each passageway an opening for the passage of the head of the fixing bolt when this head extends in a direction parallel to the longitudinal axis of the reinforcement. Two retaining surfaces adjoining the opening retain the head of the bolt when it is perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the reinforcement. Arch-shaped members are fixed to the surface of the reinforcement which is adjacent the outer face of the concrete element and have inclined branches which extend into the concrete in a direction opposed to the outer face to a sufficient depth to distribute the forces within the concrete element.

    • A novel method of making a reenforced railroad tie from precase concrete or other settable material, including embedding therein combined anchoring and auxiliary reenforcing elements of L-shape, or of inverted T- or pi -shape of a pair of unique rail tie plate sub-assemblies molded in conjunction with the tie so the auxiliary reenforcing rods of the respective tie plate subassemblies, which extend longitudinally of the tie, do not touch one another, so as to avoid any possibility of short-circuiting rail related electrical signals. One method embodiment provides for using conventional rail tie plates together with weldattached rail spikes having the heads depending from and projecting into the concrete molded tie, and across which heads auxiliary longitudinally directed combined reenforcing and anchoring rods are disposed for embedment in the precast tie so as not to touch the corresponding rod portions of the other tie plate or of other metal reenforcing rod elements constituting basic or primary reenforcement for the precast or molded tie. Another method embodiment relates to the fabricating of the subcombinations of the rail tie plates with the unique integrally attached combined anchoring and auxiliary reenforcing rod portions thereof.

    • A reenforced precast concrete railroad tie having rail supporting and anchoring plates integrally molded thereinto. The rail plates in one form have a pair of L-shaped anchor and reenforcing rods welded to each of the gage and field sides of the tie plate, with portions of the rods having substantial longitudinal length to supplement other reenforcing rods molded longitudinally within the tie. The tie plate is further provided on its generally planar underside with either a welded on or integrally formed fixed threaded nut depending between each pair of the L-shaped rods at the gage and field sides to accomodate complementally threaded bolts cooperating with rail clip fasteners, the bolts passing through tie-plate-formed apertures correspondingly aligned with the threaded opening in the nuts. In another form the L-shaped rods are replaced by inverted T ot pi shaped rods. A novel apparatus subassembly and related method utilizing presently conventional components and techniques in a novelly improved manner is also contemplated herein.
