摘要： An electrorheological fluid that includes a dispersed particulate phase of anhydrous amorphous ceramic particles. The anhydrous amorphous ceramic particles can be of a very precisely tailored composition that is unavailable in crystalline form, for obtaining enhanced electrorheological response. The amorphous particles are substantially free of water when used, and have reduced tendency to absorb water in use. Accordingly, the electrorheological fluid containing anhydrous amorphous electrorheologically responsive ceramic particles has wide applicability for use, and enhanced durability in such use.

摘要： A process for the production of a lubricating oil additive concentrate which process comprises reacting at elevated temperaturecomponent (A) a defined acid or derivative thereof,component (B) a calcium base added either in a single addition or in a plurality of additions at intermediate points during the reaction,component (C) at least one compound which is (i) water, (ii) a polyhydric alcohol having 2 to 4 carbon atoms, (iii) a di- (C.sub.3 or C.sub.4) glycol, (iv) a tri (C.sub.2 -C.sub.4) glycol, (v) a mono- or poly-alkylene glycol alkyl ether of the formula (I)R(OR.sup.1).sub.x OR.sup.2 (I) wherein R is a C.sub.1 to C.sub.6 alkyl group, R.sup.1 is an alkylene group, R.sup.2 is hydrogen or a C.sub.1 to C.sub.6 alkyl group and x is an integer from 1 to 6, (vi) a C.sub.1 to C.sub.20 monohydric alcohol, (vii) a C.sub.1 to C.sub.20 ketone, (viii) a C.sub.1 to C.sub.10 carboxylic acid ester, or (ix) a C.sub.1 to C.sub.20 ether,component (D) a lubricating oil,component (E) a defined carboxylic acid or derivative in an amount up to 60% by weight of the total weight of component (A) and component (E), said total weight of component (A) and component (E) being that required to satisfy an equivalent ratio of component (B) to component (A) plus component (E) of not greater than one.

摘要： A novel lubricant composition is disclosed, which contains not less than 0.1% by weight of at least one calcium ferrite having the following general formula:Ca.sub.x Fe.sub.y O.sub.x+(3/2)ywherein x is 1 or 2 and y is 2 or 4, provided that y is 2 or 4 when x is 1, and y is 2 when x is 2. The calcium ferrites may be monocalcium ferrite, dicalcium ferrite or hemicalcium ferrite, produced by mixing iron oxide and a calcium compound in a molar ratio of 1:0.5 to 1:2 and fusing them by heating at a temperature of 1200.degree.-1400.degree. C. The resultant material contains not more than 5% by weight of the whole, of ferric oxide, silica and alumina as impurities. The calcium ferrites have a maximum particle size of 100.mu., preferably 0.15.mu.. They can be used as such for lubricant purposes, or can be incorporated in a lubricating oil or grease, such as a mineral oil, in an amount more than 0.1% by weight and preferably more than 1% by weight.

摘要： A method for producing a lubricant in producing an overbased calcium sulfonate, which is converted from the vaterite form into the calcite form and, finally, a calcium sulfonate grease is produced by heating the mixture. A lubricant may comprise at least one ester composition, calcium carbonate and at least one overbased alkylbenzene sulfonate. The basicity of the mixture is limited during the preparation of the overbased calcium sulfonate to a TBN of at most 550 mg KOH/g and during the conversion of the calcium sulfonate to a TBN of at most 450 mg KOH/g. Both the calcium sulfonate and the grease containing said calcium sulfonate may be produced exclusively on an ester basis, so that the end product does not contain any mineral oil and is therefore easily and completely biodegradable.
