    • In a centrifugal separator, in particular for separating light materials, such as grass seed, from an air flow, a whirl chamber is provided between a circumferential wall of the separator casing and a radially inner filter consisting of a louvred shell imparting a change of direction of about 180.degree. to the air flow on its way from the whirl chamber to the air outlet of the casing, thereby creating within the shell a counter-rotating whirl of air and material passed through the slits together with air.To separate such material from the air, the shell is provided with a vertically extending slot associated with an ejector rail adapted to remove the outer portions of the counter-rotating whirl and feed them back for renewed separation in the whirl chamber of the separator casing. The slits may then be given such a size that they will not be blocked up by the material or give rise to an increased loss of pressure, as the ejector rail provides for regaining the material passed through the slits.

    • An air classifier comprises a casing formed of a generally hollow cylindrical vertical casing body and an inverted conical hopper fixed to the lower wall of the casing body. A fine product outlet duct is provided at the center of the upper wall of the casing body. An air-powdered material inlet duct and a secondary air inlet duct are set in the diametrically opposite positions of the vertical wall of the casing body to project tangentially outward. A vertical rotary shaft extends through the central portion of the casing body. A rotary disc member for concurrently carrying out the dispersion and classification of a powder raw material is fitted to the lower end of the rotary shaft at a boundary between the casing body and hopper. A cage-shaped assembly of guide vanes is provided in the casing body to conduct a mixture of air and powdered material into the casing body. The air classifier of this invention constructed as described above can precisely classify by itself a large amount of powder material as a classifier for swept-air from a mill.

    • A method and apparatus for effecting low-pressure separation from a suspension of reclaimed wastepaper of both cellulose pulp fibers and light impurity particles having a specific gravity less than that of the pulp fibers, characterized by the use of a wastepaper cleaner operable in the low-pressure hydrocyclone mode to deposit the heavier pulp fibers at the bottom of a chamber and to establish an upward flow of the lighter particles in a vertical vortex in the central portion of the chamber. The invention also includes a method and apparatus for separating the cellulose pulp fibers from a reclaimed wastepaper suspension by a combined high-pressure drop low-pressure drop separation process, use being made of a high-pressure drop hydrocyclone separator that is connected in unitized construction with the low-pressure wastepaper cleaner. Finally, an improved waste-paper cleaning system is disclosed including in combination with the highpressure drop low-pressure drop separator a further low-pressure wastepaper cleaner for effecting second-stage cleaning of the lighter separated impurity particles, and a further hydrocyclone separator for effecting second-stage cleaning of the heavier separated impurity particles.
