    • A device for holding and dispensing a disinfectant liquid such as isopropyl alcohol from one section of the device, and holding and dispensing sterile swabs from another section of the device. A single unit combines a storage and delivery unit for the liquid disinfectant and a storage and delivery unit for sterile swabs. The liquid disinfectant is stored in a refillable container with a pump for delivering the disinfectant. The disinfectant storage unit is refilled with a hollow needle, puncturing a self-sealing membrane and injecting the disinfectant fluid into the storage unit. Complete sterility of the disinfectant fluid can thereby be maintained. A second holding and dispensing unit is combined with the liquid unit. A series of individually wrapped sterile swabs is stacked into a spring-loaded cylinder. Swabs are individually removed from one end of the unit, and replaced by the next one in the stack. The device allows a health care professional to always have available the equipment needed for dermal sterilization, and minimizes waste normally associated with these supplies. Alternatively, the swabs may be stored in the cylinder separated by an impervious barrier, allowing the swab to be used while held and contained by the cylinder.

    • An ocular inspection and treatment eye mist apparatus having an outer housing that contacts the bony orbit surrounding the eye. An inner housing, concentrically disposed within the outer housing contacts the eyelid, pushing the eyelid back, exposing the eye. The outer housing is adjustable longitudinally over the inner housing to accommodate different users. The position of the outer housing prevents the inner housing from protruding too far into the eye by acting as a stop against the bony orbit. One end of the inner housing is adapted to receive a dispenser for administering a metered spray of medicine, powdered or liquid, or lavage to the eye as it is held open by the ocular treatment apparatus. The dispenser nozzle is equipped with a contrasting mark which provides a target for the eye to focus on ensuring the eye is optimally positioned to receive the metered spray. A method of using the ocular apparatus for inspecting the eye or administering a medication or lavage to the eye including adjusting the inner and outer housings, positioning the apparatus on the eye to have the inner housing contact the eyelids peri-occularly to retract the eyelids and to have the outer housing contact peri-orbitally to act as a stop.

    • Apparatus for instilling a medicament into an eye includes a rigid housing for containing a reservoir of medicament and a nozzle for instilling a dose of the medicament into an eye. A displacement pump, sealing a front end of the rigid housing and in fluid communication with the reservoir, provides for metering doses of medicament from the reservoir to the nozzle and for forcing each metered dose through the nozzle. A stopper, slidably disposed within a rear end of the rigid housing, provides for gradually decreasing the housing volume containing the medicament reservoir. A diaphragm provides for accommodating transient decreases in the volume containing the medicament reservoir during metering of doses therefrom by the displacement pump.

    • A dropper tip 30 is provided which allows a person to instill a drop D into and eye E from a bottle 20 that has compressible and resilient walls 19 while the bottle 20 is held in a horizontal orientation. The dropper tip 30 includes an internal passage 37 into which a stem 35 is inserted. The stem 35 has a groove 36 along its peripheral surface which allows the flow of liquid 21 from the reservoir 20 to the free end 29 of the tip 30. The stem 35 protrudes from the external opening 44 of the internal passage 37 of the tip 30 and has a head 33 on the protruding end. The drop D adheres to the head 33 rather than adhere to and migrate along the external surface 28 of the tip 30.     • A method and article for delivery of skin care agents. Freeze-dried liposomes are used to encapsulate agents for delivery to specific cells in the skin. The applicable agents include perfumes, moisturizers, vitamins and therapeutic compounds as well as others. The agents are encapsulated in liposomes specifically selected to carry the agents to the target cells thereby increasing effectiveness and efficiency and minimizing systemic absorption. The liposomes are at least partially freeze-dried to improve shelf-life and improve delivery to the skin. After freeze-drying, the liposomes are deposited on or in a fabric-like pad. The liposomes are rehydrated either immediately prior to application to the skin or on the skin using natural moisture or a hydrating solution. An applicator is also provided to secure and hold the impregnated pad during use. The applicator may provide steam or vapor to rehydrate the liposomes during application.
