    • A shearing machine is disclosed which includes a first lower blade and a second lower blade positioned at right angles with respect to each other. A ram is provided which is swingably movable upwardly and downwardly with respect to the lower blades, the ram including a first upper blade and a second upper blade positioned at right angles with respect to each other. A drive drives the ram upward and downward with respect to the lower blades and connecting rods couple the drive to the ram. An adjusting mechanism is coupled to the ram and the connecting rods for adjusting the lower limit of the stroke of the ram. Furthermore, the machine includes adjustors for adjusting the horizontal clearance between the upper and lower blades when the ram is in its lowered position.

    • A baling machine for particulate material such as wood chips and bark includes a vertically elongated compression chamber provided at its upper end with an inclined inlet feed chute, a downwardly facing vertically movable compression ram in the chamber, an upwardly facing vertically movable gate ram forming the lower end of the chamber during compression, and a bale-strapping assembly associated with the lower end portion of the chamber. A horizontally movable door operating between open and closed positions at the inner end of the feed chute forms part of the wall of the chamber when closed. The leading edge of the door is specially shaped to penetrate the material in the chute and to cooperate with anvil surfaces at the end of its travel to prevent jamming of the door as it closes.

    • Apparatus for use with a pair of thermoplastic strips of the type illustrated in U.S. Pat. No. 3,608,117 wherein one strip is formed with studs longitudinally spaced at intervals and a second strip apertured and counterbored at the same intervals is used to bind sheets apertured at the same intervals at locations spaced inward from one marginal edge is described. A pressure bar is first manually moved to operative position and a handle compresses the strips together by exerting a controlled force on the pressure bar. The handle then initiates movement of a support for a knife consisting of a length of metallic ribbon material having spaced horizontal stretches in horizontal alignment with excess stud lengths of the first strip projecting through the second strip, the ribbon being under tension to hold such stretches taut. As the support moves toward the studs a current is passed through the ribbon, heating it so that the ribbon functions to cut off the excess stud length slightly below the second strip. The current then is terminated as the support moves upward forming heads on the stud stubs filling the counterbores in the second strip. By this time, the ribbon has cooled and functions to cool and harden the heads. Retraction of the handle returns the support to initial position and releases the pressure bar. The handle also actuates a punch for the apertures in the sheets, the punch being located at a different station in the machine from the binding mechanisms.

    • A corner shearing machine has two pairs of shears, the lower blade of one pair intersecting the lower blade of another at a right angle, and the upper blade of one pair intersecting the upper blade of the other pair at a right angle, the lower blades being mounted to a base and the upper blades to a reciprocable ram. Adjusting wedge assemblies, with screw drives and manually operable cranks facilitate adjustment of blade clearance, and hydraulically energized pressure pads maintain zero clearance between ram guide slides and guideway blocks therefor. Ram drive is by one or another of two hydraulic cylinders operating through a rocker shaft and linkage connected to the ram, and hydraulic clamps secure the work.
