A remote media flow may be established as part of an origination process wherein the controller UE requests that the media flow is established on a remote media UE as part of the origination request. A remote media flow may also be established as part of a termination process wherein the controller UE identified in the termination request identifies a remote media UE on which a remote media is to be established. Embodiments also allow for the session control to be transferred from a first device to a second device, while maintaining one or more media flows on the first device.

The system includes a display coupled to the first endpoint and a user interaction device coupled to the first endpoint and associated with the display, wherein the first endpoint is configured to: receive visual information from, and transmit visual information to, at least the second endpoint over the communication network; show visual information received from at least the second endpoint on the display; obtain a copy of the visual information shown on the display when instructed by the user interaction device; add an annotation, if any, as indicated by the user interaction device; and transmit the annotated copy to the second endpoint.

In response to a request of a caller to establish an interaction with one or more recipients, the preferences of the caller and the recipients are considered in a process which determines which interaction application is recommended to be used in the requested interaction. A user can be associated with a respective user profile which includes information with respect to the user's communication preferences. The recommendation is generated based on preferences of the users participating in the interaction. In case a conflict is identified between the preferences of different users which are about to participate in the interaction, an arbitration process is executed in which the conflict is resolved.

To provide the external services, an external application server establishes a Computer Telephone Integration (CTI) channel with the PBX in order to register for one or more events that occur for a communication session controlled by the PBX. When one of the events occurs, the PBX sends a token containing information regarding the communication session and a media server associated with the communication session. The external application server uses the information in the token to provide an external service, via an external application, to a media stream of the communication session. In one embodiment, the media stream may be sent to that external application that provides the service to the communication session.

In some implementations, the method is performed at a first electronic device having one or more processors and memory storing one or more programs for execution by the one or more processors. The first electronic device receives a media control command for a second electronic device. In response to receiving the media control command, the first electronic device sends a server media control request to a server system, and sends a local media control request to a second electronic device within a local network to which both the first electronic device and the second electronic device are connected. In some implementations, the server system is associated with an IP address outside an IP address space of the local network. In some implementations, the first electronic device and the second electronic device are associated with IP addresses within the same subnetwork.
