    • When the data recording is performed on a magnetic tape in various recording densities, information relating to the recording density (recording-density related information) is recorded in the data recorded on the magnetic tape. Accordingly, recording and reproduction can be properly managed by referring to the recording-density related information, even if data in various recording densities are recorded on the same magnetic tape. Further, when the recording density is altered, the drive apparatus side switches over the recording density in accordance with the quality of recording data. Thus, in the case where the data writing is not possible due to a recording error, the recording density is switched over to a lower recording density to record the data without an error, and therefore a higher flexibility is provided to a data format to be recorded on the magnetic tape.

    • When data recorded on a disk is traced in a reproduction mode, a selection circuit (28) is switched so as to select data read by said selection circuit (28). When a recording decision means (22) decides start of data recording, said selection circuit (28) is switched so as to select a reference clock. In this manner, a system clock generated from a system clock generation circuit (25) is gradually switched from a state which is synchronized with a bit clock to a state which is synchronized with a reference clock. According to the output system clock, recording data written on the disk is synchronized with the recorded data from a position continuous to the recorded data.

    • The present invention is concerned with a data management apparatus, in which data recorded by dubbing from a CD-DA (Compact Disc Digital Audio) to a hard disc drive (HDD) (31) as a second recording medium are supervised by a hard disc recording and/or reproducing unit (3), which hard disc recording and/or reproducing unit (3) supervises the identification information of the CD-DA to enable the supplementary information to be obtained via communication means from a network server, and in which the so produced supplementary information is automatically registered in the hard disc recording and/or reproducing unit (3) to permit the supplementary information, such as the name of music airs, to be produced even in the absence of a user's input.
