    • A user can designate a dataset and one or more n-grams in a graphical user interface displayed by a client computing device (“the client”). The client can send the designations to a server computing device (“the server”). The server can execute a query over the dataset based on the n-grams, and return statistics indicating occurrences of the n-grams in the dataset. The client can generate a graphical representation corresponding to the statistics. The user can select a portion of the graphical representation, which the client sends to the server. The server can respond with excerpts of documents corresponding to the selected portion and other n-grams within the documents. The client can then display a list of the excerpts and a list of other n-grams. The user can then perform further actions on the lists such as viewing the underlying documents or adding n-grams to the search query.

    • Methods and computer-storage media having computer-executable instructions embodied thereon that facilitate refining query results using visual cues are provided. Query results are determined in response to an indication of a user query. One or more groups of query results are generated from the query results based on categories of query results that share similar features. Visual cues are associated with each of the query result groups. Visual cues, in association with query result groups, are presented to a user. Query results associated with a selected visual cue may be presented to a user. A refined user query may be generated based on a selected visual cue.

    • Highly relevant search results for unstructured queries are efficiently identified from normalized data. A server graphs relationships between each of the data objects. For each search term, the server identifies a candidate set of data objects mapped to the term. The server calculates priority scores for the candidate data objects based at least in part on one or more of: a link analysis of the graph; or an analysis of metadata describing structural constraints upon the candidate data objects. Based on the graph, the server identifies one or more search result subgraphs, each comprising at least one data object from each of the candidate sets. The server looks for subgraphs in an order that is based on the priority scores for the candidate data objects. The server may terminate its search early, in part because prioritizing the candidate data objects increases the likelihood of receiving relevant search results first.

    • Many software applications allow users to consume and interact with a variety of data, such as files, photos, web pages, emails, and/or other content. Because the amount of content may be cumbersome to sift through, software applications may provide filtering and searching capabilities to aid users in finding desired content. However, the trial and error involved in current searching techniques may be time consuming and/or diminish the user's experience. Accordingly, one or more systems and/or techniques for presenting visual previews of search results are disclosed herein. In particular, a user may reference an identifier (e.g., “Bill”) that may be used as search criteria to retrieve corresponding objects (e.g., photos of Bill). A visual preview of the retrieved objects may be presented to the user. The user may quickly view visual previews of search results by referencing various identifiers without committing to a particular search result set.
