    • In one embodiment, a method is provided for sharing bandwidth in a data processing system having a plurality of locations. The method includes splitting data into a plurality of data elements. The method also includes sending, from a sender, each one of the plurality of data elements to a different location selected from the plurality of locations. The method further includes sending a message from the sender to each of the locations receiving one of the data elements, where the message is sent from the sender separate from the data elements. The message includes information about the data elements, and for each location receiving one of the data elements, an address of the location. The message includes all of the addresses of all of the locations of the plurality of locations receiving one of the data elements of the data.

    • Handling failure of a primary group at a first data center that is part of plurality of data centers providing triangular asynchronous replication, includes creating a data mirroring relationship between at least one storage volume at a second data center having a synchronous backup group that is part of the plurality of data centers and at least one storage volume at a third data center having an asynchronous backup group that is part of the plurality of data centers and resuming work at the second data center. Handling failure of a primary group at a first data center may also include synchronizing the at least one storage volume at the second data center with the at least one storage volume at the third data center prior to resuming work at the second data center.

    • A method for transparently upgrading derived database objects commences upon analysis of the data dictionary definition for an initial derived database object as compared to the data dictionary definition for a patched derived database object, then determining if a regenerated instance of the derived database object would be logically different from the initial derived database object. The determination is based on comparisons of the definitions of the initial derived database objects and patched definitions of respective database objects. The method produces a regenerated instance of the derived database object when a regenerated instance of the patched derived database object would be logically different from the initial derived database object. The method will suppress the production of a regenerated instance when a regenerated instance of the derived database object would not be logically different from the initial derived database object. Once regenerated or suppressed, a post-upgrade software application accesses the regenerated derived database object instance (if regenerated) or the initial derived database object if the regenerated instance was suppressed.
