    • A mechanism is provided for detecting data loss in transfer data between a first information device and a second information device. The second information device receives transfer data sent by an application of the first information device, the transfer data being segmented into pieces and, for each segmented data piece, there is a write hash value, k hash value is generated for the segmented data piece that has been received, and the generated hash value is stored in the dedicated buffer in the second information device as a read hash value. The write hash value and the read hash value are compared and, when the write hash value associated with the segmented data piece and the read hash value of the segmented data piece do not match, it is determined that data has been lost from the transfer data at a time of transfer of the segmented data piece.

    • Server supervisor processes in the segment nodes of a database cluster afford transparent reset mechanisms to a fault tolerant service (FTS). FTS probes only primary segments as to their status unless a primary segment does not respond, in which case FTS will probe the mirror of that primary-mirror pair, and change the state of the mirror to primary if the primary is faulty. Only a primary segment to initiate a reset of its mirror segment and then resets itself. If a mirror segment fails, it shuts down and its corresponding primary segment will report the failure to FTS. Transient communication failures are addressed by retry logic on FTS probing, and not reported to FTS. Reset is not initiated by FTS and preserves the segment state in the absence of errors.

    • A method for recovering and requeueing lost messages is disclosed. The lost messages are intended for delivery from a first computer program to a second computer program but are instead stranded in locations internal to the first program. The method extracts one or more of these stranded messages from the location internal to the first program, determines the original destination of each stranded message and delivers that message to the second program. Delivery of each message to the second program is facilitated by using message queues provided by middleware type software programs. The desired middleware program can be selected by the user of the method, and the method provides for the necessary formatting of each recovered message according to the selected middleware. Absent use of the present method, these stranded messages would not be routed to their original destinations.
