    • An electromagnetic shutter controlling device releases the shutter to start exposure when the device is energized and completes exposure when the device is deenergized.The electromagnetic shutter controlling device is constituted of a shutter blade for opening and closing the shutter aperture, a first driving spring for closing or releasing the shutter blade, an electrical delay circuit for controlling exposure time, an electromagnetic device including an armature attracted by the magnetic force of the electromagnetic device and being connected to the electrical delay circuit, a second driving spring which is strained by the attraction of the armature so as to release or close the shutter blade when it is released, and a retaining member for keeping the shutter blade at the aperture closing position until it is actuated to release the shutter blade by the attraction of the armature.The armature is actuated by the magnetic attraction of the electromagnetic device first to strain the second driving spring, then to release the stop restraining the shutter blade so that exposure is started. The electromagnetic device is deenergized after a predetermined period of exposure time controlled by the delay circuit to complete the exposure by releasing the armature to return to the resting position and by actuating the previously strained driving spring to drive the shutter blade to close the shutter aperture.A trigger switch is closed simultaneously with the attraction of the armature to energize the delay circuit.

    • An electronic programmed shutter has a sector which is also used as an aperture vane, a sector opening and closing lever normally biased in the sector closing direction, a driving member which is moved in a linear direction by a release operation of the shutter, an electromagnetic device for controlling the closing time of the shutter by an electronic switching circuit, and a driving lever having a first cam face acting in such a direction as the sector is opened by the sector opening and closing lever and a second cam face coacting with the electromagnetic device. The driving level is movably supported on the driving member such that the sector opening and closing lever is rotated by the driving force of the driving member via the driving lever to effect opening of the sector and the cooperative relation between the sector opening and closing lever and the driving lever is released by the electromagnetic device to effect closing of the sector by the normal bias applied to the sector opening and closing lever.

    • A controlled projection reader is disclosed in which film having indicia thereon is passed by an aperture area. A lamp and lens arrangement projects the indicia on the film onto a screen or the like. A scanning disc is mounted relative to the aperture area so as to be rotatably driven relative to the film and aperture area. Means on the disc permits scanning or line-type reading to occur. A masking disc is mounted for relative movement relative to the scanning disc to permit either scan-type operation or full line projection. The film is looped toward the scanning disc to reduce the distance between the aperture mask, image plane on the film and the scanning disc so as to project a clear border line on the screen. Means for advancing the film in response to rotational movement of the scanning device is provided.

    • An automatic exposure control system for motion picture cameras in which a dual aperture iris driven by a nulling galvanometer in a bridge circuit with a photocell controls the aperture stop setting of the camera. The system is automatically correlated to the specific values of film speeds by sectors of graduated light filtering densities on an indexable filter disc positioned in front of the photocell and indexed by a lug on a cassette containing the film. The location of the lug or the cassette is correlated to the speed of film loaded therein. A different notch on the cassette is correlated to one of a plurality of mutually exclusive ranges of film speed and adjusts the operating range of the bridge circuit upon insertion of the cassette into the camera.

    • A shutter blade drive lever having a projection is pivotally fixed to an integral flat portion bent at a right angle of a shutter release lever which rotates in parallel with a shutter blade having a projection for engagement with the projection of the drive lever. When the drive lever is moved to its energized position against its bias spring, the release lever is not permitted to rotate so that the projection of the drive lever may be kept out of contact of the projection of the shutter blade. When the shutter release lever is rotated so as to permit the drive lever to return to its initial position from the energized position, the projection of the drive lever moves along a path in which it strikes and swings past the projection of the shutter blade so as to rotate the shutter blade against its bias spring and then to return to its initial position, whereby the shutter is opened and closed. The shutter ensures the smooth and reliable operation and avoids the erratic operation.
