    • A fiber optic connector including a body forming a fiber insertion path and an optical lens. The fiber insertion path receives an optical fiber and extends within the body to an internal end. The lens includes a first concave surface formed at the internal end of the fiber channel and a second concave surface formed on an external side of the body. The first and second concave surfaces of the lens are operative to direct light towards each other to enable optical communications between an inserted optical fiber and a connected second connector. Multiple connectors may be incorporated within the same body. A fiber tip cleaner and fiber bonding system may be included within the insertion path. An optical block incorporating the connectors may be configured as a splitter and/or combiner. The connectors and optical blocks may be used to implement a segmented FTTH optical network.

    • An apparatus comprising an acoustically resonant ultrasound launcher is provided for cleaning of optical fiber connectors and other optical fiber parts. The resonant ultrasound launcher is designed to transfer and to focus ultrasonic energy from an ultrasound transducer to a relatively small target area with high intensity. Specially designed fluid flow channels allow this apparatus to efficiently clean optical fiber connectors with an exposed end surface or with an end surface concealed in a connector adapter. Circuitry is provided to automatically track the frequency to enhance the ultrasound generation. Another circuitry is provided to program the sequence of the cleaning process, including washing, rinsing and drying.

    • The present invention relates to an optical-connector cleaning device, wherein an outer casing has an openable and closable window, through which a cleaning tape for cleaning fiber end surface of the optical connectors is gradually fed. The optical-connector cleaning device according to the invention includes a cassette for integrally holding a reel for feeding unused cleaning tape and a reel for taking up the used cleaning tape, wherein the cassette can be attached to and detached from the outer casing, thus facilitating the replacement of the cleaning tape. Furthermore, in the optical-connector cleaning device according to the invention, a replacement unit including a guide plate for guiding the fiber end surface of the optical connector and a rubber pad serving as a base for the cleaning tape can be detachably disposed at a position corresponding to the window in the outer casing, thus facilitating the cleaning of optical connectors having different shapes.

Fluid can be delivered in an automated manner at a particular time (e.g., connection time) in order alleviate the burden of a technician having to manually clean the optical interface with conventional cleaning material or a stick-on adhesive each time the technician exposes the optical interface. One arrangement is directed to an optical connection system having a first optical connector and a second optical connector. The first optical connector includes a first optical connector housing and a first optical interface fastened to the first optical connector housing. The second optical connector includes a second optical connector housing and a second optical interface fastened to the second optical connector housing. The second optical connector housing defines an aperture that directs fluid over at least one of the first and second optical interfaces.

    • The receptacle includes a rotatable coupling nut for engaging an externally threaded fiber optic connector assembly or plug which is mounted upon the end portion of a fiber optic cable. As such, the cross-sectional dimensions of the fiber optic connector assembly can be significantly decreased, thereby permitting the fiber optic cable to be pulled through much smaller ducts or passageways. The receptacle also includes a receptacle body adapted to be mounted in a fixed position, such as to a sidewall of an enclosure. The coupling nut cooperably engages the receptacle body such that the coupling nut is free to rotate relative to the receptacle body even though the longitudinal movement of the coupling nut relative to the receptacle body is limited. In this regard, the coupling nut extends through an aperture defined by the receptacle body such that a flange extending radially outward from the rear end of the coupling nut engages the receptacle body to thereby limit longitudinal movement of the coupling nut in a forward direction. The receptacle can also include an inner sleeve extending at least partially through the longitudinally extending bore of the coupling nut. The inner sleeve can include a flanged rear portion connected to the receptacle body rearward of the rear end of the coupling nut to thereby limit longitudinal movement of the coupling nut in a rearward direction.
