    • An electrical energy consumption measuring system is disclosed which includes a watthour meter, a meter socket, a set of voltage transformers and two plugs. The meter is energized when it is received within the meter socket. Selected socket terminals of the meter socket are electrically connected to one of the two plugs. The set of voltage transformers is electrically connected to the other of the two plugs. The system is constructed and arranged so that, when the plugs are matingly engaged, the set of voltage transformers electrically isolates the windings internal to the watthour meter from the service voltage of the power system.

    • An improved metering unit is described which samples a power-related waveform and simultaneously captures its analog signal parameters for temperature and all phases of voltage and current, providing a more accurate and clearer waveform sample that effectively detects harmonics problems and does not require signal interpolation methods. The improved metering unit comprises signal conditioning circuitry interfacing with the power line for sensing temperature and all desired phases of voltage and current parameters of the waveform. The metering unit further comprises a processor having a timer output. The timer output controls track and hold circuitry and an A/D converter. The timer output places the track and hold circuitry in the hold mode to simultaneously capture temperature and all the desired phases of voltage and current of the waveform, and, at the same time, the timer output triggers the A/D converter to convert the captured analog signal parameters into digital sample values.

    • A device for energizing the electronic digital display found on current kilowatt hour meters in order to read the digital display of meters that have been removed from their site location that is simple to operate. The device would allow service personnel even those inexperienced with kilowatt hour meters to read the meter even if they are located in remote areas. In particular, the structure of the device will enable service personnel or the local utility office to read the meter without having to locate an energized meter socket with the correct terminal arrangement and correct voltage, or to taking the meter to an off-site meter test shop. The device generally incorporates a 13 terminal kilowatt hour meter socket and a six terminal kilowatt hour meter socket which are connected to a 120 volt power source through a step-up transformer.

    • An electronic watthour meter is digitally configurable to operate as several different types of watthour meters for metering electrical energy from a variety of different electric utility services. Automatic scaling of line input currents is provided to scale the voltage input to an analog to digital converter over selected ranges such that low level and high level input signals are measured in an optimum range. A digital signal processor is employed to calculate values for metered electrical energy and output pulses, each proportional to a quantum of energy flowing in the circuit being metered. The processor calculates the value of DC offset errors inherent in the various analog circuits of the meter and uses that value in the calculation of metered electrical energy to compensate for such offset errors. The meter employs automatic and manually initiated test functions for testing the operation of the processor and other critical circuits in the meter.

    • A sealed utility meter having internal automatic disconnection. The meter contains a battery source of power for energizing the circuitry and is used in its operating environment in a horizontal position. In order to minimize battery drain prior to operation the meter is provided with a tilt switch mounted at a substantially 45.degree. angle to horizontal to energize the meter when it is in its operating position and deenergize the meter when it is removed from that position. The meter is packed in a container with packaging material which determines the packed position of the meter and the packing carton is provided with indicia to indicate the proper shipping and storage orientation of the carton. When the meter is thus packed and the carton thus oriented the circuitry is deenergized.
