    • A reversible ratchet mechanism includes a pair of roller clutches set to operate in opposite directions when engaged by a belt. During the forward motion of the ratchet assembly in either direction of propulsion of the belt, one roller clutch is disengaged while the other is engaged and locked, thereby propelling the belt. During the backward stroke, the engaged roller clutch is free to rotate. The result is that the reciprocating motion of the assembly is converted into the linear motion of the belt. The ratchet assembly includes a shift mechanism to reverse the engagement of the roller clutches and change the direction of propulsion of the belt produced by the push/pull action of the operator. The invention is advantageously used in conjunction with a wheelchair.

    • A drive which operates on both sides for use in adjusting devices, such as motor vehicle seats, includes a drive lever, a drive wheel, and coupling elements. The pivotally mounted drive lever is for, starting from an initial position, effecting a turning movement in one direction or the other as desired. The drive wheel is turned when the drive lever is moved out of the initial position. The coupling elements are arranged on the drive lever and have coupling areas for transmitting a turning movement onto the drive wheel. In order to transmit a turning movement, the coupling element can be coupled to the drive wheel via at least one positive locking element and by at least one elastic element.

    • A joint has a first leaf having an inner gear and a second leaf having an external gear meshing with the inner gear.     • The invention relates to an adjusting device for a vehicle seat with a silent ratchet. The silent ratched includes a first ratchet portion and a second ratchet portion. The first ratchet portion has an inner lining which is defined by a rotating body. The second ratchet portion is a) arranged so as to oppose the first ratchet portion and to be capable of rotating about an axis of the inner lining and b) which carries at least one clamping lever capable of pivoting about an axis of the clamping lever. The clamping lever has a clamping area located in a neighborhood of the inner lining. An actuating device for the clamping lever being provided so that the clamping lever may be pivoted in a controlled manner between a normal clamping position in which the lever is frictionally engaged with the inner lining, a non rotatable connection of the two ratchet portions being provided thereby, and a release position, in which the clamping area is located at a distance from the inner lining. The inner lining is provided with a surrounding clamping groove (54) or clamping ridge having two lateral surrounding clamping surfaces The clamping area is designed as an engaging part or as a covering part adapted to said clamping groove or clamping ridge, said engaging part or covering part having two sloping clamping sides, each cooperating with one clamping surface.

    • A mechanical rectifier efficiently rectifies or converts alternative clockwise and counterclockwise rotation of a main handle or other active driving element into unidirectional rotation of a main shaft. This mechanical rectifier is useful in manual tools such as a "no-waste screwdriver", which eliminates the wasted hand motion inherent in all ordinary hand tools, and in energy-saving devices such as a wave-powered electrical generator. The basic mechanical rectifier includes a shaft, two driving elements, and a reversing mechanism coupling the two driving elements so that they can only rotate in opposite directions. Each of the two driving elements has a separate one-way roller clutch pressed in its bore in proper orientation and riding on the shaft so that, whichever direction a driving element is rotated, it always turns the shaft in the same direction. Therefore, a tool bit at one end of the shaft always serves to tighten a fastener, while a tool bit at the opposite end only serves to loosen a fastener. To switch from tightening a fastener to loosening it (or vice versa), the main handle is pulled out of engagement with a hub of one driving element and inserted for engagement with a hub of the opposite driving element.
